According to Wikipedia, "Kwanzaa (/ˈkwɑːn.zə/) is a week-long celebration held in the United States and in other nations of the Western African diaspora in the Americas. The celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture, and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving.[1] Kwanzaa has seven core principles (Nguzo Saba). It was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966–67.

Hanukkah is Jewish holiday, last 8 days, beginning on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev. That ends up being late Nov to late Dec. The holiday celebrates the rededication of the temple in Jerusalem following the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. Actually, here's a link to an interesting Wikipedia article about assorted holidays, by month. There are a LOT of cultures and religions that have a celebration around the time of the winter solstice. AND, yesterday was celebrated by Buddhists as "The Day of Enlightenment" , celebrating the day that the historical Buddha experienced enlightenment.

Can we have safe dark zone? An area dedicated to no mention of the dreaded day? No decorations and Carol and bell ringing Santa free shopping.

Yes, this. And I would like this also for the 4th of July, an anniversary date for me.

In Shimmerzville there would be free decompression chambers and quiet zones everywhere. When it all gets to be too much you just turn the corner and there's a little room that you can see if it's already occupied or not. You go in, turn the lock so everyone else knows not to bother you (little sign says vacant or occupied), and there is a little bed or cot or couch, a weighted blanket, some stuffies, soothing music (or silence) of your choice, some hot water and teas/cocoa to choose from. The lighting is of course adjustable. @Ms Spock has already left her basket of goodies like comfy knitted things and self compassion and self-activating hugs for those who want them in the room. There is a window that opens onto a natural area, you can close the curtains if you want, but you can also take a "visual green break" by looking out onto peaceful nature.

Also, there is art and writing supplies, and a journal that stays in the room. You can read past entries about how people were feeling and the birds and beasties they saw out the window and how much better they felt after some time in the room. You leave your own message for the next person who needs to decompress, and sign off saying, "Thank god we live in Shimmerzville!"
