One boy, one boat, one tiger . . .

After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orang-utan ? and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. The scene is set for one of the most extraordinary and best-loved works of fiction in recent years.

One of my all time favorite books! I first heard it on CD in the car with my son on a long trip. Next, I listen to the audio book on Audible. Twice! Then recently I saw the movie once on my own and once with my parents. I enjoyed the movie but I think the book is much better.

I especially like how much is left to the imagination and how you need to draw your own conclusions.

I love this book the Life of PI. I am at the part where PI has been on the lifeboat 2 or 3 days and has allowed the loss of his family to sink in.

I read this a couple of years back. I loved the humour at the start - Richard Parker being such a brilliant name! I loved the descriptions of the family and life at the zoo.

I did get lost part way through - especially the bit with the trees (she says, trying desperately not to give anything away) and to be honest, I still have no idea what the actual ending is!!!

My boss has the DVD and I was thinking of borrowing it - I was a bit nervous as the book can be quite graphic, but the film is a PG. I was hoping that end may be clearer if I saw the film...

I really enjoyed this book and the movie. I think the book is better, if only because it allows you more into the thoughts of Pi, and there is a lot of value there.

I would say that the movie carries a very low trigger warning, unless water or wild animals are triggers.

High quality literature and a story that really sticks with you.

It hasn't grabbed me and I've started reading something else.

I'll try and persevere but sometimes I think life is too short.
