The Tigers Wife: A Novel

Whoo hoo... it's 20th Feb today. I will have to pace myself on the discussion timetable, 22nd, to evenings for me, which will be mornings for most others... that way nothing is spoilt by me being so far ahead in the timeline due to geographic location.

Whoo hoo... our first book club book is ready to go. I will have to read the chapter tonight.

Damn, lousy time zones:D.

OK, confession time, I've read the intro and a bit of the first chapter which is after all quite long :oops:.

Sp far so good. I'm looking forward to some relax time tomorrow to read properly.

Funny... I just read the first chapter, and am busting to start discussion.

We will have to evaluate the discussion rate as we go, is it too slow, just right, etc. I know I have a lot of other reading to do with study and psychology... then other responsibilities tossed in.

Saying that, didn't take long to read the chapter... an hour at most.

Two days between chapter discussion could be a bit far apart I am already sensing. See what happens I guess, and adjust as we go.

Mine still has not arrived and our next mail bag is not until Thursday so I guess I will have to lag behind.

That time it finally is...

I have to say I was a little confused reading the first chapter, and I guess like many books, it can also be the most boring whilst establishing a foundation of information for the books remainder.

Natalia certainly has an interesting relationship with her family, with the unspoken words which have more meaning, than spoken.

I am a little confused with Nada and Barba Ivan at the moment. They're housing Natalia and Zora for the time being, and these gypsies are using the house whilst digging up the hillside.

I was finally happy by the end of the chapter when there began the notion of secrecy behind her grand-fathers death. I guess the foundation is now set... albeit I am still a little confused due to its perceived, I think, location referenced around Bosnia / Herzegovina within the Balkans, which I am unfamiliar with.

I read the first chapter tonight, and what struck me the most was how protective the family was of each other. The great lengths the members would go to keep others from know the "truth" of personal pain and suffering.

I have a strong feeling the "protective" family dynamics are going to be a central theme and the positive and negatives of such complex alliances.

Chapter 2 looks like it might bring it together a little better as I was too confused by the political and geographical implications.

But it is just fun to get into something different.:)

I've read the first chapter and as the second chapter is so long I've started on that. I can only hold concentration for about 10 - 15 minutes. When I read the same paragraph 4 times and still can't grasp what the words mean, I know it is time for a break.

The family dynamics are interesting. Natalia seems to be closest to her Grandfather and I think the Grandmother especially is jealous of their close relationship and the secrets they shared.
