They Want Me To Take Anti-psychotics

Taking an anti-psychotic like Seroquel or Zyprexa for stabilizing your mood, when you're not psychotic ,isn't any different than taking an anti-seizure med like Depakote or Topomax, for bipolar disorder, when you don't get seizures. If it can help...why not try it?

Unfortunately they didn't help me but I did try everything and anything put in front of me. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder many years ago. Last year, when I was hospitalized to get my meds straightened around, I found out that I probably don't have Bipolar Disorder, but Traumatic Brain Injury. This is probably why I have so much trouble taking the meds for Bipolar. :confused:

I too take quetiapine ( an anti psychotic) every night to help me sleep and to counter-act the nightmares. I have been taking it for nearly 3 years. It helps me tremendously. I went through a phase of not wanting it, and tried to stop, but everything came back big time. So I continue. No side effects- just the good effects. I will take it until I decide I don't need it any more. It is VERY helpful.

I believe in medications when they work. I was a basket case and they put me on several meds. They are working and I can function really well. I will continue to take them as long as I need them. I wish you the best in this situation.

Well I have been on Abilify for a while now with ativan thrown in when the anxiety hits hard. The Abilify is incredible and I can't believe I almost refused it. I don't scream at my kids and I'm not so angry anymore. The Ativan is not working as well as it did when I first started it (actually isn't helping at all now) so I have an appointment to meet with her tomorrow.
I really appreciate all the replies and insight!
