We put up a tree and have the grandkids decorate it. I will have hot choclate and cookies for them this year. We are either going to my daughters house or they are coming over here. We will have grinders so we can munch all day.

I hope you do enjoy Christmas gizmo and enjoy your grandkids, husband, daughter and those grinders lots. The celebration with you family sounds great, .....and, and, and, those grinders sound like they just might be particularly delicious, especially if you prepare, or buy, as many grinders and one would place out cookies.

 Hugs and please enjoy each other and gizmo. :)

Thank you goingonhope very much for the thoughtful things you said to me. Thank you also for the hugs. Usually when we do grinders we go all out with all kinds of meats and cheeses and condiments. It is expensive but so worth it. I do not know for sure what will happen at Christmas this year as my daughter wants to get a divorce from her husband for emotional and verbal abuse. So we will have to wait and see. I so appreciate you. You are such a kind person. Hugs back at you.

I think holidays can be hard for a lot of people when you are expected to be oh so happy and you are just oh so not! I do think it is fantastic that you have all created new traditions to help with that though - all traditions have to start somewhere...

I do have to ask though - what on earth is a grinder? Here in the UK it's something for cutting sheet metal :roflmao:

Trying to pretend Christmas isn't happening. I get divorced next week (after 25 years of marriage - his choice) and have hand surgery the week after that. This is the first Christmas without my father so now both parents are gone. My family is all either 1500 or 3000 miles away and just don't understand how difficult things are. I am here with my big, crazy dog, will be one-handed (of course it is my dominant hand getting the surgery), alone and I just don't want to even pretend it is a good time for me. Alone, abandoned and I just don't give a damn.

I am so mad at my family this year I will not be celebrating at all with them. (My Grandfather had a heart attack and a heart valve replacement. Most of my info came via Fcebook.) i have to work Christmas day. I will go eat a friends afterward...

Ah ha - thank you Gizmo. Sounds fantastic. I love Christmas tea time because then you can pick at all the leftover bits - cold sprouts and bread sauce are my favourite!!!! But turkey sandwiches and stuffing come a close second... sounds like it could be a Grinder of sorts

My Grandfather had a heart attack

My Grandpa had a heart attack on a Monday, many moons ago, I found out on a Friday and only because I called my mom to tell her that I was going to go visit my grandparents. She said she thought someone let me know. Personally, since she was my mother, I thought she should have called me. I had a chance to talk to him but he was kind of drugged up. He died the next day when I was on my way to visit him. I was so angry with my family.

I hope your Grandfather is doing better. I don't blame you one iota for not wanting to spend time with your family. Though, when I think about it, when my son found out his grandma died the first thing he did was post it on facebook. So a few of my relatives would have found out that way. But he's 14, not an adult. I think that was a way of letting his friends know and expressing his sadness.

There's always a chance that they thought the "other" person told you. I wish you peace.

I still haven't done any decorating yet, but tonight we finally finished redecorating our dining room. It's much less formal, more contemporary, with seating for reading and homework. I finally have my space back for our Christmas trees. Tomorrow night, my mad decorating fun begins.
