My new therapist told me that we would be doing "Trauma Based CBT" (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) among other things and I am wondering what the difference is between this and regular CBT. I have had the regular CBT before, but we never addressed my traumas while doing it. I'm encouraged that we will finally be dealing with my traumas, but I am curious if any of you have had this before and if it has been helpful?

Good morning, @SheilaKathy ! TF-CBT is similar to regular CBT, except that (as you mentioned) it does deal directly with early-life traumatic events. Usually, the client is a child but this method of treatment can also be effectively used with adult survivors of child abuse. With regular CBT, it's primarily for traumatic events that happen when you're already an adult.

Great question, by the way. I learned something new. Many thanks.

At the moment I am doing a trauma based CBT .My therapist is following a course based on childhood sexual abuse/trauma although I have never been sexual abused I was physically and mentally abused so we are adapting it to my personal situation.
The first 7 weeks of the course was about my way of thinking and noticing when I was feeling low ect and recording how I felt.
Now we are moving on to the actual abuse side so we have started with my flashbacks and how they are affecting me.We will be moving onto anger ,relationships, intimacy ect.
I presume that your therapist may do something similar although I can't be sure but I hope what I have written has helped.
