First of all, this stuff is amazing, I actually sleep the majority of the time. I say majority because I do still wake up in the middle of the night but it’s not every night anymore and I’m able to get back up sleep quickly.

Pdoc started me on 50 mg which I was still waking up a lot. So he upped me to 100 mg and it’s awesome. Until morning.

I’m struggling with waking up for work. I try to take the med early enough (usually 8 pm) so that I’m not so tired in the morning (4 am). Part of it is I hate my job but I’m so so so tired. The times I’ve called into work I’ll fall back to sleep until 9 ish/10 ish.

What can I do to get the benefits without having such a need to continue sleeping?

I tried cutting them up to take 75 mg worth and I was back to being awake most of the night.

How long have you been on the 100mg? It might just be that it takes a bit of adjusting to?

Trazodone has been a real game changer for me, but I've been on it a couple of years now and I can't remember properly whether I had this problem in the start. I'm on 200mg which I take at 9pm. I usually get up in the morning between 6 and 7, BUT, while I can wake up/get up, I am super slow in the mornings.

If you're having to get up at 4am, that's a difficult time to get up anyway when it's still dark. I would maybe try going to bed even earlier if possible for a bit while you adjust to the dose and slowly bring the time you take it a bit later each day maybe?

ETA - are you on any other meds as well as the trazodone?

I started 50 mg in mid Jan. and was upped to the 100 mg late Feb. so about a month? I should be past the adjustment period.

I’m on Buspar (30 mg/split) and Zoloft (150 mg). Both upped to those dosages at the same time as the Traz.

I'm not familiar with those, are either of them known to also have a sedative effect/cause drowsiness? When do you next see your prescribing doctor?

I’m honestly not sure if either of them do, I’ll have to look. The Zoloft (sertraline) is an antidepressant/SSRI and the Buspar (buspirone) is an anti anxiety.

I don’t see him again until mid June, but I can always contact him and get an earlier appt.

It's probably worth checking out with him it might be that the combined doses need tweaking to get what works best for you.
I know that if I take diazepam in the day (I don't take that regularly, just 'as needed') in addition to the trazodone then I will find it hard to get up next morning, even if I've taken it (diazepam) early in the day.

I'd recommend it - sounds like a difficult side effect for you to manage from now until then.

Just to mention it, I'm assuming you're not drinking alcohol while on these...but if you are, even a small amount can radically increase the effects, esp. of Trazadone.

Haven’t had any alcohol with this, been scared to try. But I am going to email him and see what we can do. Thank you guys!
