OP here: I'm on a waiting list and judging by the NHS system. Should surprisingly start next week.

What is processing other then talking ad nauseam? How does a counselor really make this process become anything different?

Huge difference between processing and talking ad nauseum. Processing is taking about it in order to face it, assimilate it, move on from it, and heal. Ad nauseum is using it as your calling card. New therapists, new lovers, new friends, new situations, new forums... whatever. It's bringing out your story to justify staying stuck, or to get you sympathy and accommodations when the story is past its sell by date.

True processing isn't just writing your story until it doesn't affect you anymore, as some may believe.

Thank you! I think true processing is facing, accepting, assimilating, reconciling and then moving on from it. De-sensitising yourself is something else... and, in my opinion, leads to the risk of still using it as and when it serves a purpose.

Oh. This was a few weeks ago, and I hope it's working out for you. If it's not, please bear in mind that the NHS itself is ailing. It's a mess, and if that affects you, there are alternatives. Mostly charities or finding a way to private therapy. But there are a lot of charities, so if the NHS doesn't help please consider that option.
