Dear Director of Nursing,
I do not understand why you address your medical complaint, about a medic - a doctor- to the Director of Nursing rather than the Medical Director?

Here in the UK nursing issues are dealt with by nurses and medical issues are dealt with by medics.

Interesting how locations change protocols about, yes? Here in the States the letter would be usually be addressed to hospital administration (either the administrator themselves, or a patient liaison), who oversee both the medical staff (doctors, nurses, techs) & non-medical staff, or to the chief/attending (doctor) of that department, regardless of whether it’s a doctor, nurse, or support staff issue. Although it can vary a lot, hospital by hospital. In some it’s the social work department who interfaces with patients/family, in others all complaints are directed to the the legal department, the dean of medicine, or director of nursing. So we always have to call to find out who is the person/department who handles patient care issues.

I have had experiences like this one, but, at the dentist. I have always had a terrible time at the dentist. I found an article about how a dentist appointment can cause very real and very uncomfortable feelings for someone who has gone thru what I have. I actually printed the article and took it to the dentist. He said that he had never considered it. He also thanked me and said that he will remember it with all his other patients also.
