My brain slid out my ear and scuttled across the floor.
I'm sure it's just m
Oh! Oh! Oh! I know this one!!! (I ♥️ science)

If you locked eyes with him? It’s not a you thing, it’s a human thing.

The short version is that maintaining eye contact for 7 seconds or longer usually means you want to kill them or f*ck them.

Okay, technically it’s either affection or aggression, but it’s a pronounced form of either. But since parents and babies stare into each other’s eyes for upwards of several minutes at a shot, often several hours a day, with many many many 7+ second no blinking intervals? It’s worth noting that it’s not always sex or violence. Thats just the way I shorthand it. Con artists also use this, called “soul gazing” to evoke very real feelings of affection, create bonds with their marks, as do skilled interrogators. In either direction, or both. Granted, people who’ve been through interrogation training have been taught to pick a point in space to stare at, for just this reason, but there are ways around that given time. And then it’s goodnight Irene... because the bonds of affection -or volatility of aggression- start to form, no matter what.

Seriously. Locking eyes with someone for 7+ seconds actually causes a massive dump of neurochemicals, in either direction. (oxytocin for affection/bonding -vs- a very complicated cascade for aggression, pain killing, emotional distancing, blood pressure, adrenaline response, seriously f*cking diverse series of chemical chain reaction for this type of aggression.)... and it’s completely out of the persons control. You have to break eye contact to stop the flood of neurotransmitters.

It’s a super-fun biology thing. Eye contact is usually determined by culture (who is allowed to look at whom, and for how long) but prolonged eye contact transcends culture, and is species-wide. Like micro expressions are species wide, whilst macro expressions are determined by culture.

Wicked cool, amirite???

Why do one of the Property Brothers always "volunteer" to babysit stranger's kids? Why would one of them ask a boy to "show him his best school pose in another episode"?? The brother and sister duo from HGTV creep me out as well. Full House: too sad and bizarre for words. My heart hurts for the Olsen twins and whatever they went through and may still be going through.

These are examples of what I was talking about. Some of them anyway.

Some people may say even this site is triggering!

Triggering is very subjective and person or even time based. What one is triggered at one time, one may get over it another time. So really hard to know what is triggering. However, there are times that some events, words or intentions are not just triggering but inciting and I will leave the law of the land to determine that.

I am talking about what I truly think is inappropriate-seeing behaviors or if I think there is an inappropriate outfit, correlations. I should have stated that in my first post. I reiterate. That is what I mean. I think the FCC needs tighter rules and regulations/higher standards:my thoughts.
Yes, I agree with you, I have to avoid a lot of stuff on TV etc. It is hard.

I really don’t want to go back to the days of Lucille Ball being ridiculed for being the first pregnant woman on TV. Because oh my goodness pregnancy is a sign that she had sex at some point and man is that inappropriate to show audiences that include children. Who ironically were created by that very same act. . . FCC has already had tight controls, there’s a reason they don’t anymore. I get there are things that are hard to watch, I’ve got my own triggers. Hell I avoid Game of Thrones because of some of the elements. But I can’t ask the world to create that buffer FOR me, that’s my job. It’s my job to determine my triggers and learn how to avoid them when I can or work through them when I can’t. We already have so many areas in our lives that government teeters on overreaching and our media (as crappy and two faced as it can be) should not be censored for fear of triggering someone out of the millions that watch.

As someone mentioned earlier, if you want overbearing censorship in your media North Korea is most definitely the place for you.

I spent most of last year in an adolescent psych hospital, and one film that for some reason was played so much was Les Miserables. I remember the first time someone put it on and like 6 of us were simultaneously triggered at once. I just cant with the start of that movie- a couple of the staff were like"oh yeah maybe a happier movie"
We tried to get it removed from the ward but they literally refused for some reason despite all the patients agreeing... idk
Funnily enough that hospital is the source of further trauma for me haha, so all round a great experience
