I know of no experts on anything. I do know that several surveys that show perceptions by people living all over the world point to countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Canada being less corrupt than the US. (It shows in how well and fair this forum is managed.) The surveys also point to Somalia, North Korea, Sudan, Chad, Iraq and Afghanistan among the most corrupt.

I worked in international shipping for 20 years. Sorry to say the survey is corrupt as well. Its only a matter of how open the corruption is. Every ship in this world carries; 20 cases of cigarettes, 5 cases of whiskey and 20,000USD in cash. Why? Because you have to pay that around the world. Including the US and Western Europe. In the US and Europe you pay in goods. Every canal you go through costs you in whiskey, cash and cigarettes. These are not fees. This is extra on top of all the fees the governmment and other entities levy.

The difference between the West and the rest of the world is we found a way to systemize and legalize our corruption. You have no legal recourse. Especially if the judge is bought.

If you have bought an imported car in the US, you paid about 400USD more than you should have. The whole supply chain is corrupt. There are bribes and funny things going on all the way from the manufacturer, to the shipping line, to the port, through customs agents and then down to you the customer. None of those companies pay the bribes. Hell no. You pay the final bill.

If corruption of that sort is endemic througout the world. It would be no surprise its just as rife in any western country. What is the difference between the US and China. They have a heavy hand towards the public, We have the illusion we have choice. Our heavy hand is catching up though. Western society tends to have a high and mighty attitude towards the rest of the world. We're really no better. Just good at hiding it.

Thank god the NSA is recording this conversation for posterity. I need some reading in FEMA camp.
