Once again - this had never occurred to me. I'd only seen it as me having nothing to offer to some people.

This is concerning for me to read.

This was the core of the problem for me as well Ms. Spock. I think this is one of the foundational problems and what predators see. They give a heady sense of how 'important' you are to them. Until you aren't. That just sets victims up for the next round as each of these issues further erodes fundamental confidence in oneself.
