Vomiting after extended fight or flight?

I know fight and flight can shut down certain systems to conserve energy from more imideate need survival systems, but can it literally shut down your digestive track for days?

After an extended period of being highly symptomatic, I would rate it a 12 out of 10, once I got the symptoms under control and had the first decent night sleep in 3 months, I got what I am assuming is food poisoning. Ended up spending the next couple of days praying to the porcelain god.

Don't know how to do spoiler tags on my phone, to lazy to enter them manually. So beware the gross tmi that follows.

So money was short, food was short at first so I ate very little, appetite never returned. When I did eat I would get painful hiccups.

Well after a good night sleep, I vomited up spoiled food and undigested pills. I thought the pills were a placebo. Nope, just undigested with the small amount of food I ate over the previous week. I had been urinating normally so what gives? Any biology experts? My in house person who on paper says he should be able to explain this, has a theory that doesn't have any supporting evidence in my case.

Not sure if this is the same, or from being triggered, or just 'me', but a little while ago I thought the same, except mine was combined with very severe distention from my sternum to pelvis (and no appetite or food) for 8 days, and pain through to my back. After the first day I thought it was food poisoning, because I had egg/ rotten egg burps (food poisoning or ulcer), but they only lasted 1 day with that odor. I don't have a doctor and had to work/ hard to get to clinic, so by the 3rd day I went to Gaviscon 3-4 x/ day x2 teaspoons, plus Extra Strength Tums (8 max/ day). I drank sips of apple juice, no coffee, warm baths, stretched my arms up (it's some yoga posture Idk what it's called). Then cream of wheat. But it took about 8 days for the bloat to go and to start semi-solid food (the cream of wheat), and about 12 days to get any appetite. I just used juice to keep my blood sugar up because can't afford light headedness at work. The apple juice seemed very soothing, actually, and I usually don't like it, and only yellow apples agree with me at all.

I've had the nausea and undigested food fairly often, especially if stressed. Under high stress food just sits in my stomach indefinitely and I can only describe it feels like a rock, followed by intense nausea, and sometimes dizziness.

Burping is usually normal for me after drinking or eating on a really empty stomach, as it displaces air.

It probably would be wise to rule out pancreas or gall bladder issues, or kidney stones, etc. I did have a strange experience where 2 nights I could smell (or taste?) this awful smell I 'knew' but couldn't recall- it came to me it's this awful odor when someone who needs dialysis misses it by about 2 days. (Very sorry if that's wayyyy tmi. :( ). It did make me wonder though if with the stress on the kidneys if elevated stress can bring it on? Oh ya, and as I would walk by the 3rd day I could literally hear liquid sloshing around, so could people around me. It was very weird and painful. :(

Hope you will feel better soon! :(

Makes a lot of sense and not tmi. Transportation to medical treatment is hard to come by but on last check liver kidney pancreas function was ok. No GP until may because I am a new patient. I have moved around a lot lately. I don't have the rock feeling, minor bloating. I actually can't tell if I feel hungry and suffering from low blood sugar or nausea until I vomit.

If it helps? Super-wired wih stress and add PTSD? You’re probably not just looking at gastric issues, but also potential issues with your bowels.

So you’re across how the body super-charges systems and organs it needs to fight/flight already. To achieve that, your body kinda shuts down non-essential sytems and organs, like our stomach digesting stuff, and our gut processing stuff.

So, ptsd oftentimes comes with along with chronic illness related to both the stomach and the gut, because they aren’t being given the chance to function in a healthy way.

Good news? There’s absolutely medical options to get on top of most of those issues. And it’s a good idea to follow up with your gp because it can do damage if your stomach or gut isn’t functioning properly on a regular basis for years and years.

Bad news? If you didn’t also notice a change in your bowel movements? Then it’s worth assuming this may have been something else. Ptsd aside, we still get the tummy bugs going around.

Hope you’re feeling better:)

Yep. When my guy is highly symptomatic he has all kinds of problems. He recently had a few bad months and lost almost 40 pounds. We're trying to get his weight back up now that his stress cup isn't so full.
