Gosh, in light of all you are doing and your improvement, your podiatrist sounds lazy... Smart to be careful with the injections too! They are intense procedures. I think you made a great choice to walk away. :)This seems to be working, I can walk again. I have heard horrible things about the injections and how they are pushed on patients, much like surgery is pushed by surgeons.
Would you mind telling me what therapies you tried? I am starting emdr, but I'm thinking about somatic therapy, too. I don't know if emdr will help this and I am afraid to bring anything new up as I am already dealing with enough. Thanks again.
Dr Scarer's website is here: Link Removed. He explains
I actually had the chance to work with a physical therapist who worked with Dr Scarer several years ago. In the trauma informed physical therapy relm, I did reflex relaxation, myofacial release, PRRT (primal reflex release technique), etc. - basically a lot of types of work that helped to get my brain and body talking to each other more (which I didn't think was a province but somehow helped a lot) and to get the physical component of the trauma to finally work itself through, instead of staying stuck and hurting so badly. Some of it didn't work for me, some of it just seemed strange, but it all worked about as well as the nerve blocks did and got me from barley being able to move to doing short triathlons again.
EMDR is actually one of the therapies Dr Scarer and (other trauma informed pain med professionals) recommend. It made me too dissociative, but if it works for you, it's a great option to try. I was able to use it to directly reduce some of the the CRPS pain in the sort run. It is smart to be hesitant about stirring up too much at once.
I found more success for myself personally with doing the deeper trauma work doing a couple of variations of somatic experiencing than EMDR, but I have known others with CRPS that found relief with EMDR alone.
Gosh I sound like a huge Dr Scarer fan after being such a skeptic and still so skeptical of everything... But he's not selling any particular technique of his own -he really focuses on approaches that are already out there and helps people understand the connection between trauma and CRPS.
I hope you continue to find what works for you and things keep getting better! Good work for listening to what you knew you didn't need. :)
