SIGH SIGH SIGH.

This post is by an ignorant physician who does not know even the STRSIGHTFORWARD stuff in the DSM that anyone without a medical degree can understand.

I’m out.

I really don’t feel like wasting my time discussing what one stupid doctor thinks. Seems pointless to me as this is a blog/forum post, not an article or research.

It's actually several doctors. I find it interesting to see what doctors talk about "in real life". The original post is about a patient that came to him when she claimed to have ptsd from being fired. What I liked was some of the explanations of how PTSD actually works. Scroll on if you don't like it.

From the first post in the article once you get past the rant

"In my current job, I saw a patient who claimed to have PTSD from... getting fired from her job. She had seen other mental health professionals in the past and claimed to have been legitimately diagnosed with this. Now, I probably should have been nice and never said anything, but I was having pretty strong countertransference to this woman, because it was a cush civil service job she got fired from, probably for some stupid office-politics reason, it happened about 15 years ago, and her entire life ever since then has consisted of spending all day every day obsessing over the fact that she got fired from this job and how she just can't get over it. So eventually, in one of our appointments, I somehow let slip that technically she didn't actually meet the official diagnostic criteria for PTSD. And whaddaya know, she transferred to our medical director and said she didn't want to see me anymore."

It should probably be noted that this isn’t an article. It’s not even a blog post that someone has authored.

It’s just a post, in a thread, in an anonymous Med Student forum ...the students chatting amongst themselves.

On the upside, they don’t think you can get PTSD from being fired unless there was some kind of Criterion A trauma present.

Yeah i found it on accident. I'm guessing it's a forum like this one.

Ooops I did say article when I quoted that part. My mistake.
