What Is Your Favorite Fall Activity?

I am with cherryblossom that it just means 9 months of dark wet days here. But on the other hand, there are the Halloween parties and taking my granddaughter trick-or-treating. I also enjoy the family gatherings for the holidays. Hmmmm, I don't have much family so that normally takes place at my wife's parents house. Makes me wonder where I will be this year for those events? Maybe I will be one of those people hanging out in Denny's on those days! lol

I do like seeing the leaves change colors and fall, but that also means cleaning them up from the yard and out of the gutters which I actually enjoy. Good old physical labor!

Oh yeah, I can hear Hank Williams Jr. singing "Are you ready for some football?" ;-)

I know what you mean Jawn and we never really had much of a summer here in the valley this year did we? I am in the beginning of the coastal range due west of you. It's foggy this morning on this side of the valley how about yours? 30 miles can be a huge difference in the weather!

I get thru the long winters hoping for snow, loving a warm fire and gathering with friends. The holidays are busy. January is the toughest month. February brings the crocus's out and March/April the daffodils, May the Cherry blossoms.....then it's hang on and HOPE for summer to come!

But Fall, oh the colors. The smell of apple pie and crisp clean air! I like to watch my granddaughters trick or treat too ;o) Geeze, I need to get out the fall decorations! It's here!

I'm in the PNW too. Seattle area, and NO we did not have much of a summer, once again.

I like blackberry picking too and making cobbler. I want to try a pie this year. The blackberries here didn't get enough sun yet, so they are just now coming on.

Hands down favorite fall activity? Mushroom hunting, no place like PNW for that. In fact, right now I've got Shaggy Parasols coming out of our ears. We've had them three nights in a row and still picking. I'm calling a restaurant today to see if I can sell some of the buggers.

I get through the winters with lots of candles and definately a fire. I went for years without a fire place and it makes such a difference in my mood. Also, warm steamy bathes.....

The thought of another long winter again bums me. Eastern Washington I'm longing for you!

Really great Halloween pic!@

I always head south this time of year to hike, camp and back-pack. The trees are beautiful and the temps are great for outdoors. But after Oct, it pretty much all goes away.

Hi Iam. No fog on my side of the valley this morning. Funny, you are in the foothills of the coast range and I'm in the foothills of the Cascades. Does that make us Hillbillies? LOL!

I need to get out an try to enjoy the remaining nice weather. I was not lucky enough to draw deer or elk tags this year, so I may need to go camping or something instead. Of course I still have a ton of projects to do around the house. You are right, there wasn't much of a summer this year and I was too distracted to notice it any way.

Iam, I actually live in Massachusetts but the states are small around here.

We have tons of maples. The ones nearby have just begun to change and I love it. It looks like the edges of the trees are on fire. It often starts at the tops of the trees with just a hint of color and gradually moves throughout the tree. When it is just the very tops and the sun is shining, it is as if the sun is reaching out to touch the tops, making all the the colors. I will try to remember to post a picture I took in VT a couple of years ago. I honestly love all seasons for the uniqueness each offers. They each offer a different kind of beauty. I love the cool, crispness that comes with fall - warm but not hot during the day and cool enough to need some heavy blankets at night. (I love being snuggled into a warm bed with the heavy quilt in top!) My church is actually planning a camping trip in early October. I expect it to be pretty cold and the campfire will be wonderful!

It won't be long and it will be time to go apple picking. Apples are the best when picked freshly off the trees when they are perfectly ripe. Fresh apples, cider donuts, pumpkin ice cream... The flavors of fall! Yum!!

Fun!

Haha ISH!
I like the way you describe the sun reaching down to the tree Sammy. Our maple is just starting to turn red at the top ;o)

I've heard of apple butter but Cranapple butter? Sounds good! We have lots of apple and pear trees on our property. It's just about time to pick them. I love our granny smith, crisp and tart!

Hiking with my husband and viewing wildlife (of course I can do that anytime of year but autumn is cool and pretty. We wnt to the Basket Slough a few minutes from our house today. It is a preserve so the wildlife there are not afraid of people and let you pretty close. In the spring and fall there are thousands of canadian geese and bald eagles nest there. We have seen fox and elk there too. Today all we saw were mule deer before the rain started and we had to head back.

Blackberries! I've been picking them for the last week. Today noticed beautiful big berries hanging from the trees in my pasture. Wait a minute....before you tell me that berries don't grow on trees....they do grow on vines right? Well any berries low to the ground in the pasture get eaten by the goats and horses. They have have had their bellies full of them for some time now so really aren't interested in eating more, but I am in the pasture so as far as they are concerned I am there to love on them. Have you ever tried to pick berries or anything for that matter with a horses head drooped over your shoulder and a pony nuzzeling your butt? LOL! My other horse stood off to the side, he isn't a lover...not with people anyway. He used to be a breeding stud so is trained to stay out of his handers "space". Funny, won't let me love on him, but gets awfully jealous when I ride or love on my other horse Haha! I do love him, Pine loves to ride....most horses really pick up speed when you head back to the barn or trailer. Pine, no way.....he's looking for new trails..."hey, ma, look here's a new one we haven't explored. Let's not go back quite yet." Gotta love him.

So that is my favorite Fall Activity for today. Yeah....it made me smile with pure contentment ;o)
