What Is Your Favorite Fall Activity?

I love going out on cool, rainy days and going to Starbucks and order their Pumpkin Spice Latte....I like to sit there in the store and listen to my music and write. I also love to bake in the kitchen!

Not really an activity, but its a fall thing - chrysanthemums or mums. I love them, they're so pretty and smell so good to me. I just bought two pots of them to plant on my balcony. (well, its really a fire escape, but it will do : )

Where I am originally from, we have this tradition on Nov 2nd, called the day of the spirits. You go to the cemetery and clean up the graves of your ancestors and plant flowers and light candles on the grave and at home in your windows. The cemeteries in Eastern Europe are very pretty, with many statues and ornaments and beautiful landscaping. By November, its pretty dark and rainy and hostile outside, but when you drive through the country side, you can see the small village cemeteries with their flickering little lights people put by the graves. I guess its a weird thing to like, but I find it extremely melancholy in a sweet way and terribly romantic. Every year I wish I could go visit during this time of the year.

Sammy,

I read your post starting with the bottom paragraph and going up (my computer wasn't scrolling up for a while) and I thought, aaaah, what a way to describe it, I can just taste all the apple and pumpkin goodness and see the beauty this person is describing, so dead on! And then my computer finally scrolled up and I realized we live in the same state, lol. The fall in here is just phenomenal : )

When my kids were in grade school, one of MY favorite things to do was go with their classes on field trips to the pumpkin patch. I loved being one of the parents to be able to go simply because I enjoyed searching for the perfect pumpkin, I think more than the kids. It was so fun to watch them race out to the patch and spread out hunting out that perfect pumpkin. The boys almost always went for the biggest, heaviest pumpkin they could find. All the better if it was heavier than they were! The girls were a bit more like their personality. Some would find the cutest little petite pumpkin and have it named by the time they left the patch. Some would go for odd shapes and in their minds it was an animal of some sort. Then of course the traditional size and shape with room to create what ever face they visualized. Once every kid was muddy and wet to the bone we all gathered for hot apple cider and homemade donuts. Each kid showing off thier pumpkin, knowing it was the best out of the patch. Fun times!

That is a wonderful Fall activityand memory! I can just see the kids running around looking for that perfect find. In fact I can see you checking each pumkin from every side to make sure it was perfect! Mud, hot apple cider and donuts....ummmm! Dang, I hope I get accepted as a volunteer before my granddaughter's kindergarten class goes out to the pumkin patch this year!

Just got done picking blackberries, baking pies
Wow...got a trip in the Way-Back machine on that one. I have a great memory of when my husband and I were stationed in Texas and we went out picking blackberries and then I baked a pie out of them. It doesn't seem that long ago until I realized that my oldest daughter was only about a year old at the time. She's got a 2 year old now herself. OK...time flies. But thanks for that good memory.

In Florida, fall is more of a state of mind (and will) and you have to really look for the subtle signs that things are changing. Usually in mid-October the highs start falling to more pleasant levels (AKA-out of the 90's) and the nights are actually cool. My favorite fall activity is watching the leaves start their slow change and paying attention to how the much mother nature plays with things even in the sub-tropics.

Love the cool air, it makes me feel more alive! I seem to get more done outside and inside. I love to decorate my house inside and out with a fall theme. I love Cortland apples...yum! I always have a good hair day in Autumn! LOL NIKI

I LOVE the cooler air and the crisp feel of it in Autumn. I used to love decorating but now that the kids are gone haven't mustered it up. Need to get into the storage under the house and pull that autumn box out!

I finally made those apple pies yesterday. I was going to make one deep one, but decided on two shallower ones instead. A full one still in the fridge, but only a quarter of the other one left. Our 5 year old granddaughter had two pieces, and hubby kept cutting bits off, LOL.

So the proof of the pudding is defiantly in the eating. Looks like I am going to be tied to the oven for a while, baking cakes, pies and what ever else they demand.

I'm with NIKI, the cooler air and subtle changes in the light are wonderful. Think my favorite fall activity this fall will be sitting. Something I do well. Just sit outside. Maybe a bird will fly by, and I can take a picture. No over-achiever any more, sitting (in a chair) rocks.
