What Lays Ahead? Heart Condition

The tests will show what it is exactly, AF or SVT. SVT is the worse one, but its also treatable. Very successfully so.

If its any consolation, many many people live with a certain degree of AF, especially those with a few more years under their belts. Both can also be brought on, or worsened by stimulants, like caffeine. Stress is also a BIG contributing factor. And what supporter doesnt live with a load of stress?

I'm really glad you are getting such brilliant care Nicolette, and my offer stands :)

An electrical specialist cardiologist called yesterday afternoon saying I have SVT from reading my ECG sent from my doctor. He says I don't need all the other tests the cardiologist I saw yesterday ordered - he says I just need one test to give them an image of my heart. As I can't see him to the end of next month in person I'm still going to have the other tests as one was to help determine if I can take other medication as the one I'm on is okay but still pain & palpitations. I figure if he can help with medication for a month I'll take it.

Thanks for the update Nicolette. Good for you on the medication. The heart is serious and not to be messed around with. I am so sad this is happening to you. I can think of more deserving people it could have happened to instead of you. I am so glad you are going to take the tests. Good luck.

((((((Nicolette)))))

Hang in there! In the ER we saw many patients of all ages with SVT, a-fib...you name it. Before working in the ER, I had no idea how relatively common this stuff is.

Several of our football players had a-fib...both our college guys and some from the NFL. Once in awhile they would come in just to be checked. Usually it was just low sodium or potassium making their a-fib more reactive and they hadn't been hydrating enough in the brutal heat.

We also had many other athletes with it. Once they go diagnosed, got some meds, it didn't seem to slow them down, ever.

These were all the best kind of ambulance calls, because you go on a cardiac call and bring them in only to see them get to go home...always a 'win' for us.

One of my 19 year old college students got PSVT...he had major surgery, but once he got back, went on to med school and is a surgeon now, I believe. Another of my students had his SA node just die from a virus...but he got a pacemaker right away, and within 2 years, his blackbelt in some kind of martial arts. He came back to he area and now teaches here.

I'm so hoping you'll have great results and this will soon be behind you. Although, like we say in AA... "GREAT!!! ANOTHER F'IN LEARNING EXPERIENCE!!!"

I'm so sorry for all the stress and worries. I hope they discover the cause soon, fix it, and get you back to just the regular stress of living, which is more than enough.

Thanks Bloom. I've had all the tests done & my heart problem is purely heart related - deficiencies & causes such as potassium, magnesium, electrolytes, high blood pressure, thyroid etc have all been medically excluded. They've done all the blood work & all is normal including my thyroid function.

The other problem I have is I don't tolerate medication well anymore & will often get the worst or have rare side effects. The first medication caused me to be unable to function and I knew I had to stop taking it. The current medication is okay but not a solution I can live with as I'm still suffering and in pain.

I also have symptoms of ventricular fibrillation picked up by ECG.

I almost fell off my chair when I started reading this thread - my thought was "Ohhhh non, not Nicolette". I'm glad that the medical system went in the go mode quickly. At least you are being taken care of pronto!

Yes I remember your problems with the meds when you went through your kidney/bladder experience last year. Just hoping that they can regulate that soon. Like gizmo said, I'm not religious but spiritual, you are in my prayers ... sending you positive vibes ... burning a candle for you sweet ((((Nicolette)))). You seem so strong through this ordeal, keep it up and find ways to reduce the stress.
