Spock, I don't think just being disabled will permit Space-A. I think you have to be retired. I'd love to fly space A. Crossed the big pond to Britain a couple of times in a C-130 and if I can endure that one of the big jets these days would be cake. Hammock, sleeping bag and sleep most the way.

I think you're correct. I remember sleeping on top of a crate for 7 hrs from Hawaii to Alaska once in a C-135. Hard mattress but lotta room

My family is making me happy today. It's my 31st birthday and my girls made me a poster. I had my 21st birthday a week after I got back from Iraq so I'm trying to make this a turning point in my life. So far so good :)

Someone sent me this poem.

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.
And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.
But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Joe has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a Soldier died today.
He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.
He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
'Tho a Soldier died today.
When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?
The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.
While the ordinary Soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?
Or would you want a Soldier
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.
He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his likes again.
For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Rules for the Non-Military -- (Make sure you read #13 twice)

Dear Civilians, we know that the current state of affairs in our

great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the

military. For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand.

Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:

1. The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during

the playing of the National Anthem - kick their ass.

2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag or the Flag of your Country in protest - kick their ass.

3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the

highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise,

quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the

very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many

sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold

them down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.

4. If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were.

Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle Fatigues, telling

others that you used to be 'Special Forces'. Collecting GI Joe memorabilia

might have been okay when you were seven years old, but now it will

only make you look stupid and get your ass kicked.

5. Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them,

'Do you fly a jet?' Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such

ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).

6. If you witness someone calling the Coast Guard 'non-military',

inform them of their mistake - and kick their ass.

7. Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get

on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your

heart. This includes arrogant politicians who think someone may be

offended. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to

be carrying her - of course, failure to do either of those could earn

you a severe ass-kicking.

9. 'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense to me - stop

saying it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore would

kick your ass!

10. 'Flyboy' (Air Force), 'Jarhead' (Marines), 'Grunt' (Army),

'Squid' (Navy), 'Puddle Jumpers'(Coast Guard), Bubblehead (Subsailor), etc.,

are terms of endearment we use describing each other. Unless you are

a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them.

Using them could get your ass kicked.

11. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the

military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving

and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please

remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors,

marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their

families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every

day. Without them, our country would get its ass kicked.

12. It's the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom

of the press.

It's the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of

speech.

It's the Veteran, not the community organizer, who gives us the

freedom to demonstrate.

It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag,

and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to

burn the flag.

Oh, AND ONE MORE:

13. If you ever see anyone singing the national anthem in Spanish -

KICK THEIR ASS.

ONE LAST THING:

If you got this email and didn't pass it on - guess what - you

deserve to get your ass kicked!

I sent this to you, Not because I didn't want to get my ass kicked

BUT BECAUSE YOU ARE A VERY, VERY SPECIAL PERSON AND I KNOW YOU WILL

NOT BE OFFENDED AND ARE PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF YOUR MILITARY FORCE AND WILL FORWARD.

THANK YOU

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!

If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in

front of them!
