Hi all,

Someone in another thread mentioned WRAP——Wellness Recovery Action Plan. I did a bit of research and found this website.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan - Mary Ellen Copeland

Has anyone made a plan?

How has it helped you?

Do you have any advice in reference to WRAP?

I’m looking into it deeper and want to make one of my own.

Thanks!

Tagging @shimmerz because she posted about being a WRAP facilitator in another thread and I hope she gives her feedback here!

Yes, thanks for tagging me @EveHarrington . WRAP, literally changed my life. The WRAP people were fantastic at meeting participants where they are. I can't tell you how cranked up I was in those classes and everyone was super supportive.

Anyway, WRAP is about 5 key concepts. Built around the 5 key concepts are the Wellness Plans. Basically WRAP is about those plans. It starts with 'what are you like when you are well' which provides participants a picture of how they know the difference between well and varying levels of 'un-well' or not so well states. The following plans are based on varying degrees of sliding into the abyss, all the way up to a full bore crisis.

Every day WRAP pops into my head 100 times to help me manage my state and it has improved my life by 1000 percent. Although the Copeland Centre is in the US, Canada is quite involved with WRAP as well. Unfortunately, here in Canada (Ontario anyway) WRAP is only really administered by homeless shelters and crisis centres. I recommend WRAP for everyone for self management. Not just those of us with PTSD etc. I think if I had known these skills before my meltdown, I would have been able to avoid it completely. Seriously.

Anyway, excellent tool. You really need a facilitator to get what you need out of it so I recommend you see whether they are running WRAP in your area. Best of luck! Please let me know if you decide to check it out.

@shimmerz
I just googled " WRAP Ontario" and a reference came up to a 10 week program in the Ottawa area (I'm in Ontario as well).

Do you know if this is the usual length of the program?

I believe the program, at least this one, includes a few different mental health conditions and not ptsd specific.

Do you know if WRAP programs are usually non specific or are their ones around relating only to PTSD?

Many thanks for the info!!

No, it isn't just for PTSD. And really labels aren't used so there is no need to qualify why you are involved. It is simply a self regulatory tool wrapped as a wellness tool. I honestly can't believe with all of the therapy I have done in the past decade that therapists failed to mention this. I swear to you, what took me 9 years to learn in counseling at 160 per 40 minutes per week, I could have taken this two day course and bypassed all of that.

So @CdnCopper , I am not certain if you are from the Ottawa area or not, but please contact me if you would like to find something closer. There should be no reason to travel if you are within distance of an urban centre. Otherwise, if you have it covered -- enjoy!

Oh, and I don't think I have properly welcomed you to the board! Glad to see you here getting support.

Sounds like something I would like to do - looking it up in the uk, it seems all I can find is a course that teaches people how to teach people wrap?? Is that how it works?

Nope. There is a WRAP Level I and WRAP Level II. Level II is for people who are training to facilitate WRAP. So you are all looking for WRAP Level I. Let me know if you can't find anything @Bearlinda. I will ask my contacts here. Maybe PM me if you could if you feel that may be helpful.

@shimmerz thank you so much. I had a dozen therapy sessions back in 1991, all that was allowed by wsib "back in the day". Needless to say it didn't accomplish anything so I just forged ahead on my own ever since.

I'm down in the Southwestern part of the Province between Windsor & KW. I'll do some googling and see if I can find something closer.

Thank you again...awesome info!!

All I can find is the online seminar for $399. Even if I could come up with this $, I’m on satellite so that would just be.....an exercise in futility.

Ok, I just requested the WRAP book from my library! I should be able to pick it up next week when I’m back home again.

Just came across an app in the play store.

Lots of research info online including successes, challenges etc. One thing that appears to be a common theme was that participants who couldn't make use of WRAP in its entirety agreed that there were portions of the program that they did put into use to help improve their quality of life.
