Well then we all wait with you until we find out what is going on. I know you will take excellent care of her. but don't forget to take care of yourself too. This is your baby and I know you are worried... try to make sure you don't stay on overload while waiting.... As long as she is doing others things normally, hopefully this is a one time thing and will be over soon and she will be back to herself... lots of hugs to you both.

I began writing some long philosophical post, the more I tried to say the less meaning it had.

So here's attempt #2

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I hope she's going to be ok.

She's got an appetite? That's always a good sign.

This might be a stupid question, but is it possible she's just tired? Maybe she was hunting a bug all night?

She's got an appetite? That's always a good sign.
Yeah, it is a good sign! She is a lab, so it's like the sign of imminent death if a lab isn't hungry. Sigh. Before I got her, she ate a toy at the shelter. No one knew until about two days after I had her. She was at the shelter for awhile before she was remote meant tested for service dog work and adopted by me. She was just 4 months old, and I had roommates back then. One of them dropped a pasta dish, the dish broke, and my roommate didn't clean it up right away. (I dunno why...) My sweet pup ran up and took a big bite of the pasta and broken glass. I grabbed her rushed her to the vet. I felt like the worst dog owner... Everyone told me it wasn't my fault. She was in my sight, but I didn't see the food and glass on the floor until it was too late.

She had to have major surgery to pull out the glass, and we discovered she had the old toy in her belly too, with the shelter's name still on it. After that surgery, the vet said it would be days before she would want to eat again. It was about 3 minutes before she was begging for treats.

I have done a lot to train her to not eat stuff, and she does well now. But I was still initially worried she had eaten something else now and it was causing GI problems. I worried we were looking at another "forgein object" surgery. Vet said it doesn't seem like that's the case. We will do x-rays down the road if nothing improves.

The vet said that 8 times out of 10, suddenly sick Labradors have eaten something that's making them sick.
This might be a stupid question, but is it possible she's just tired? Maybe she was hunting a bug all night?
That's what I thought at first, and I asked the vet about that. My dog walks funny, very hunched over with her tail tucked and drags her back feet. It looks like she is in pain. Vet said it might be that she strained her back and is coping by sleeping it off and walking funny. So it's a strong possibility that she is tired and sore and simply needs some rest. Dogs tend to listen to their bodies better than humans, and if they need rest, they rest. :)

It's all stirring up a lot of feelings I have about the fact that she's a working dog. She goes with me lots of places and she lives a pretty full life. She's throughly spoiled and has better health insurance than even me. Still, she has a tough job.

I also wonder if maybe she picked up on some extra stress I have been feeling and is somehow stressed out. the vet said stressed out dogs tend to have more engery, not less.

I'm hopefully overthinking it and after a bit of rest she will be back on her feet again. I want her to be ok.

Here, we have a couple of tick borne diseases that can cause some weird symptoms. They may not be a problem where you live. If they are, you're vet will think of it. But, if nothing shows up, you might ask about things like anaplasmosis and Lymes disease. Someone has to be the first in the state to get new stuff..... (Hoping she ate a pill & it's wearing off!)

Awww @Justmehere im sorry I didnt see this sooner.

I remember when my dog (a pitbull) was lathargic like that and trembling like a small dog would (which he never does), it was very late when he started it so i kept a close eye on him, not sleeping a wink as I was terrified the min I feel asleep he would stop breathing. Hugging him and laying on him all night. I remember that helpless feeling.

You are NOT a bad dog owner. You took her right to the vet (I cant help to chuckle a bit over finding the toy...not good but OMG!) and you did and are doing the right things.

Do you have any aloe or any live plants close enough that she could get to them? A lot of plants are poisionious to dogs and aloe is one i believe (I know it is to cats as one of my cats got it and threw it up thank god) but theres individual and universal poisionious plants.

No matter what, you did all the right things, took her right to the vet and medical science even for animals is so good these days. Just to have a loving, caring, and worried owner can do so much for animals. I have 2 books (one of dogs and one of cats) that are testiments that the animal pushed past what medical science said was possible due to having such a loving and caring owner there touching them; and visa versa for humans pushing through what was said to be medically possible because their animal was there. So much energy is felt both ways. She knows you love her so much, care so much, and are very worried.

Im there with you. Please keep updating us. And again, I am so so sorry this is happening!

ETA: Even if you accidently dropped a pill and she ate it, that does NOT make it your fault. I saw that and wanted to add that!

Before I got her, she ate a toy at the shelter
I gotta ask...
Did she squeak when she farted? :hilarious:

I remember the first time my dog met a wasp. She tried to eat it...
Ouch. Stung her on the tounge.

Naturally, dogs lick everything that hurts. Ever see a dog try to lick their own tongue? :roflmao:

She never tried that twice.

Though on a more serious note, I had a thought. You said you had been extra stressed this last while?
And that lab's will get more energetic as a result. If this had been going on for a while, maybe it caught up with the dog?
(Not intending to lay this as any fault of yours. As there is no way to hide body language from a dog.)
Besides, her job is quite literally a labour of love.

Anyway, still keeping you both in my thoughts. Hope it's all good for both of you.

My dog is doing better and better!

Vet said all the tests came back normal, and she thinks it's a back strain and "swimmers tail" aka a sprain of the joint at the base of the tail. Both can mimic belly pain and make a dog hurt pretty bad.

My pup is still moving super slow today, and sleeping a lot, but she is walking a little more normally. She even tried to play with my kitty today - and the kitty re-set her usual boundaries, and they were respected quite quickly. Lol :)

Vet said to keep a close eye on her for the next few days, and to bring her in if she gets worse again, but she is hopeful my pup will recover fully on a few days.

I do think my dog picked up on my stress and that contributed to her getting worn out. Animals handle stress a bit differently than humans, but it can really affect them. Once she is better I'm going to treat her to a few days at a trusted doggie daycare she loves to go to, so she can have a break from all my nerves.

But for the next week or so, she is on doggie rest, and I'm resting my own nerves too.

Wanted to update you all with the good news. Thanks for all the support!
