News Donald Trump's Popularity To Date

What will you think if these statements are found out to be incorrect?
I'd be SURPRISED, if she didn't expect the Party, to have her back. I don't think they affected the outcome much because I don't think many of Bernie's backers were listening to the party anyway. (I was and basically still am a Bernie Backer, at least this round.) I think they tried, and I think he did an admirable job of getting support in spite of them. I think similar maneuvering probably went on with the other Party. It's just that they had enough "acceptable" candidates that it was hard to keep a lid on things and one of the 2 people they probably least wanted to win won. I think this kind of stuff is why we should ban political parties completely.

For the record, I just signed up to help get signatures to get the Green Party on the ballot in this state. It's the party that comes closest to my own views. (Not a perfect match, by any means. If I could somehow combine the Green and Libertarian parties it would be closer.) You know what they say, "The solution to pollution is dilution", I think the more parties we have represented, the better the odds of the actual will of the actual people being heard. The 2 major parties, IMO only care about "winning". In that respect, Trump fits perfectly because I think what he cares about is "Trump winning".

At least now I have irrevocable proof that I was indeed singled out after making my tongue in cheek comment about Trump bashing as people are now fully free to wish horrific bodily harm and even death on the candidates (re @The Albatross ) and others who agree with her (re @gizmo) in reference to wishing that they get hit by lightning.

Ok @Justmehere can you please tell me why you have a problem with me? What did I ever do to you personally? Why did you single me out but let these wishes for harm to go on, completely unchecked?

Whoa------the paranoid chick isn't so paranoid when she waits for proof. LOL.

Russ said, "Hilary has denied any involvement in this situation, and has denied any knowledge about it. What will you think if these statements are found out to be incorrect?" She probably deleted it irretrievably like she did with her stuff with the state department. I heard that around 290 emails of the link dump were from Ms. Clinton, but I have been letting the story unfold a bit (since it just broke on Friday and was a weekend) to see what's what.

@EveHarrington - if you want to sidebar with @Justmehere, take it off-thread. The post you are referring to (in context) was clearly a misunderstanding. It was also many pages ago, in the context of another posters assumptions about trump-bashing.

This thread has meandered far and wide, and it's probably better replaced by one specifically meant to debate Trump vs Clinton vs Johnson. If anyone has objections to that, post them below - otherwise, I'll lock this in about 8 hours.

@EveHarrington - I'd be glad to discuss the matter on PM if you still have concerns.

@joeylittle - I think a thread for a Trump v Clinton v Johnson discussion is a great idea! I tried a Hillary v Johnson thread and it died out. But maybe one between all three is the most fitting. A new thread might also be less cumbersome to follow and thus easier for more people to contribute.

I personally hope this thread isn't locked, but I'm not sure all the reasons for locking it. I only have moment, but to say quickly, I think it is beneficial to have a place to discuss Trump with a focus on Trump because he is such a unique and different candidate and phenomenon. The thread has lasted almost year and the vast majority of the discussion seems to still be quite productive. I've certainly learned a lot.

Perhaps it has run it's course.

Either way, I totaly respect whatever you decide to do with it. :)

And thanks to everyone for the very interesting and informative discussion and debate!

I would fully expect the party to have her back, that is not the issue. What I am waiting to see is if, WikiLeaks releases the rest of the e-mails, the e-mails show that Hilary either knew about the DNC chair's actions, or if Hilary in someway was involved in it.

I personally don't think she was involved, but I would be surprised if she didn't know about it.

@Justmehere - I'll leave it open, and your request is heard.

Posts in this thread should re-focus to the phenomenon of Donald Trumps popularity/rise.

Posts centered on which is better, Clinton or Trump, should go into the Trump/Clinton thread.

Of course it's relevant to discuss the candidates in context of Trumps rising popularity - just bear in mind that this is a Trump-focused thread.

Remember the kids that used to dance at Trump rallies? The USA Freedom kids? They are now suing Trump. http://therightscoop.com/remember-the-usa-freedom-kids-the…/

Something that was interesting at the convention that Mark Cuban pointed out: none of Trump's major business partners came to speak in Trump's favor at the convention. Cuban used to be a Trump supporter, now he is adamantly against Trump. (http://money.cnn.com/2016/07/21/news/mark-cuban-donald-trump/ and https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzqMzX4_1Eg) Cuban thinks Trump doesn't have the ground game to win the election, and I almost agree with him. His ground game has been mismanaged and badly run. The thing is, Trump still got votes because he has been much better at branding and messaging for his campaign through social media.

I think that may start to shift because video's like this are being produced and getting passed around on social media:

As popular as Trump has become, the movements against Trump are also gaining in perceived popularity. (Hard to tell if it's going to start being reflected by decreasing poll numbers.) 100 celebrities all pledged to use their celebrity against Trump. (Link Removed and reported on numerous other sites.)

Trump's celebrity helped him get this far, and this is considerable that so many other celebs have gone against him. However, this hasn't made much of a difference so far, and celebrities being vocal against a GOP candidate isn't nothing new (and doesn't change my own vote.) Nixon won with vocal support against him, via what he and others came to call the "silent majority." Is the "silent majority" now backing Trump? They don't seem to silent anymore, both for and against him.

By the way, thanks @joeylittle!

Trump is publically pleading for spying on the US now.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/27/politics/donald-trump-vladimir-putin-hack-hillary-clinton/index.html

Buckley had Trump pegged in 2000. http://www.redstate.com/jaycaruso/2....-buckley-wrote-donald-trump-eerily-accurate/
"So what does Trump say? That he is a successful businessman and that that is what America needs in the Oval Office. There is some plausibility in this, though not much. The greatest deeds of American Presidents — midwifing the new republic; freeing the slaves; harnessing the energies and vision needed to win the Cold War — had little to do with a bottom line."

He is a businessman who now supports a forgien government spying on US citizens. Many of his supporters think this is a good idea. If anyone can explain why, please help me understand.

I came across this article today: http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/trump-us-politics-poor-whites/
The premise of the article is how society looks down on a subset of uneducated poor whites (aka hillbillies, rednecks, while trash... all the various different names this subset of Americans are called) and there is no one voicing their concerns... until Trump. I know, I know this theory begins to look like rationalization for white supremacy or rationalizing the real and true discrimination minorities really do face. That's not what this is article is about. It's not even about all uneducated poor whites. Just some of them.

Along with the horrible reality of real racism in the US, it is true that there is no # hillibillylivesmatter movement and instead it's almost cool to call them names in a derogatory way. This author theorizes that this subset of people is pissed about that. Even though it's probably misplaced, this anger fuels some of the support Trump gets. The author says, "What does it mean for our politics? To me, this condescension is a big part of Trump’s appeal."

The author does not condone the hostility of some Trump supporters but calls them out on it. His solution to the situation is a conservative one.

The article also describes more deeply to why very little ever sticks to "Teflon Don." What seems like blunders to many people, for some "poor whites" it's not a blunder, it's finally something relatable. It's a success.

This all helps explain why respect helps Trump supporters and #neverTrump folks begin to talk with each other, instead of past each other or in escalating circles of rhetoric and attacks.
