Random Cat Question

If a cat catches a bird from the window sill and has him for about 30 seconds, would the cat kill him right away or just swat him around? My cat has caught a bird for the second time in a month (from the window sill, by pushing the screen out). I ran into the room about 30 seconds into the attack and stopped it and now don't know where the bird is, and if it's alive or dead. Am bracing myself for having to go dig around to find a bird body, but maybe he was just swatting the bird around?

It really depends on the cat.
Some cats will play for a long time with their prey without actually harming it.
My s/o's cat sits there and bats around the crickets that find their way indoors before doing anything about it.
His parents cats do an instant pounce and that is that.
If you have seen the cat go after creepy crawlies in the house before, you can judge by how it treated those, as to how it went after the bird.
(hoping the bird got out and you don't find it x)

That might also be random bird question. Sometimes birds do what looks like the bird version of either freezing or dissociating and snap out of that and fly off when the dust settles. So, if the bird was in the apartment, it also could be alive. If it's inside, your cat will probably find it,

It could be injured frighted and or hiding. Maybe put kitty in a safe place for a few and look around?

I closed the door to that room and opened the window, so hopefully he will fly out. The cat can't get into that room now. The bird was still squeaking when I stopped the attack, so I am hoping he's still alive and will leave soon. This seems like a bad omen for my upcoming flight.

I don't about you, but I'd rather it be the budgie, not the Boeing.

Besides, thanks to the cat, there's one fewer bird in the sky to get sucked into the jet intake. :woot:

If your cat is well fed, it will most likely play with the bird. The bird is probably dazed but fine.

No. I'm afraid to search in the dark corner where I think it may be dead. Left the windows open and plan on going back in to check in a couple hours.
