Need Help Coping With Yelling

Status
Not open for further replies.
I too have C-PTSD from severe, prolonged child abuse and have difficulty coping with yelling.

However, the yelling is not directed at me, rather it is coming from my downstairs neighbor who is verbally abusive to his woman and very loud about it.

He also has a tendency to hit the walls and slam doors, curse etc.

This bothers me a lot because I grew up with a father who was abusive to both me and my mother.

No advice, I just wanted to let you know you are not alone and to thank you for posting this thread.

I keep telling myself that it is not really about me, it is about them and that helps a little, but only a little.

I wish I had some suggestions for you.

It cuts me to the core when someone yells and I want to run or to hit them, neither of which are necessarily the best strategies.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I too understand. Although I'm not yelled at by my husband, I can't handle my sister and her husband yelling and swearing at eachother.:(
I even start to tremble when my husband gets Soooooo upset and curses at the TV when watching football! :tdown:I finally told him last weekend that it bothered me that much.
I think it's more common to bother us with what we've been through.:hug:

@Jacqueline1 if he's loud and mean, then why are you stilll with him???
Great question. Tried to leave before a few times and found him impossible in court and gave up. Ive known him 35 years married for 20 we have 4 grown children and I care for my elderly mother in law. also I have lupus and at 50 my nerves and health aren't getting better. I have no fight left.

Leaving might be the best thing for your health. Lupus is an autoimmune disease, stress compounds the symptoms. It's quite possible / probable that your symptoms may decrease Somewhat when that extra stress from your husband and taking care of your elderly mother in law (even though you may love her) is gone. You need to care for you too! ;)
