The last 2 years (at least) I have been having seizures (tonic clonic).

I have been been having some investigations to rule out epilepsy.
I have been told by a neuro that he is pretty sure They are "functionalseizures" non epileptic/ pseudo seizures. He said some people have them from PTSD/traumas etc others are unknown but not epilepsy.

I am aware that people with PTSD can have seizures due to their PTSD.
? Does anyone know if their is any way to actually prove they are PTSD related. I need the proof for medical insurance to cover treatment.

I have had some eegs and produced possible conclusion they are not epileptic.

Anyone know how to go about proving they are ptsd related?

Thoughts?
Thanks

I'm not sure from your post if your doctor is suggesting that you might have PTSD, or if that is already a known?

Can you clarify if you already have the diagnosis of PTSD and are wanting your insurance to cover a specific treatment for the seizures, or do you mean you need the seizures to be recognised as showing you qualify for a diagnosis of PTSD so that you can get treatment for that?

Non epileptic seizures are usually diagnosed when other (physical) causes have been ruled out, which it sounds like you are saying is what has happened - I don't know that it is possible to actually 'prove' the cause of them further than that, but if you have trauma in your past then I think it's a reasonable assumption that they might be related.

What has your doctor suggested regarding further treatment/investigations?

Yes I have had a PTSD diagnos for over 12 years.
And yes wondering if you can actually prove that seizures are from the PTSD if you've been told that they are non epileptic.

The last 2 years (at least) I have been having seizures (tonic clonic).

I have been been having some in...

My seizures started out of the blue one morning at age eleven, when I woke up on the floor, with "pee pants".

I heard about it from my father right on up to the day I moved out, in some of the most vulgar terms imaginable.

Since there's only so much a kid-or anyone-can take, I know how my seizure history began.

Like you, the diagnosis of Epilepsy was never given me, just "seizure disorder" with "intractable" seizures. Hmm.

There's always a cause for things this serious; it's good that you're going after it, and I hope you don't stop 'til you find out.

With warmth and peace,

R.

Prove? No, I don't believe so.

If PTSD is the only diagnosis present, one could make a good case for the PNES being a result of the PTSD. But there is no way to conclusively prove it.
