Reasons For Anger, I Think.

I think a lot of veterans think its cool or tough. So what if they sleep with a Glok. Do they honestly think they are going to pop someone with it.

Hey Jimmy

Guess the answer is probably not. I always try to err on the side of causion.

My only concern is if you awake after a really bad nightmare and don't have it quite together for a moment. It only takes a milisec for shit to go way wrong. As far as it goes, people do that which makes them feel comfortable or better.

Guess I'm speaking for myself in that I don't have the frequency of nightmares that I used to but when I do they're doozies. Many times I wake up but I'm only in another part of the dream. It seems totally real as real as when I'm awake and that can happen in several successions. It can be both weird and scarry. Probably make a good story.

Another point on this whole thing is the PTSD perspective. If you are going to manage PTSD, you have to remove the triggers and reminders of being in a war zone. Sleeping with a weapon under your pillow would be a constant reminder regardless of whether they feel safe. You have to learn to not be so hypervigilient and just lock your doors and windows. By all means have the weapon in your house if you really need it, but lock it up.

Just an opinion. Weapons have to be under lock and key here with the ammunition separate.

I don't mind being hyper vigilant. What I don't like dealing with is the depression and emotional disconnect from other human brings.

This. But after years and years of being in a state of hyperarrousal, f*ck I'm tired. I would love to be able to just relax without trying again.

I would have to disagree with you on that one my friend. Only because I speak from experience when I used to have the weapon in the safe ammo loaded in the clip but laying next to it. When the piece of shit broke into my house and tried to take off with my stuff and I fumbled and fought to get the damn safe open and get my pistol he had already taken off. The more that I thought about that the more I realized that just like in the Army if I'm not prepared I could be dead or worse my family could be dead. And now that I have two little kids and a wife to take care of that shit won't happen on my watch.

I "HAVE" to be ready at all times. I won't fail my family. I won't allow myself to be caught off guard again.

Just saying...

Well lucky for your laws over there. Over here if I was to pull my licenced weapon on an unarmed intruder I would be going to jail. And I would never fail my family either. That is why I have two good dogs and good locks on my house. No one gets near the place.

Just saying that if your suffering PTSD and most likely depression, anxiety, stress, and hypervigilence, you could be more dangerous with a weapon.

And what happens if your kids get hold of it??? Its happened before.

When I first got out I lived alone. 1911 locked and loaded often waking with my finger on the trigger. Bad flashbacks and all. Never had an issue with the weapon or discharging it. Was it the wrong way to go about it? yeah it was.
I used to be a gun dealer. I had a MASSIVE gun collection.
Now there is not even one in the home. I have bad times and suicide is the first answer my brain has for bad problems.
I know everyone is different but sleeping without a round in the chamber is something to think of.
Just picture yourself explaining to the cops and your family that you shot your kid or wife from a flashback or bad dream. By all means keep a full mag just take the oue out of the stovepipe is all.

I agree Red, at least put the mag somewhere else, just far enough away that the kids can't get it and you can if you need.

I have had enough of weapons and killing in my lifetime.

Tuppence from a Brit in Germany where there is only one gun law.

No guns!

I`d rather beat some twat who broke into my house and threatend me and mine, half to death and send the f*cker to hospital to be able go to court and stand trail, than have the blood of another human being (Waster or not) on my hands.

FFS, why the f*ck are most of us on here with the f*cking beast. Ohh yeah something about, death, destruction, seeing people die and suffer. Are you guys f*cking serious.

70% of you on here are all, Ohh i`ve seen to much, this and that and all this other, I have nightmares, Boo f*cking Hoo. and are still walking around with a weapon WILLING TO KILL some one. WAKE THE F*CK UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE

There are countries around this world that need to wake the f*ck up and join the rest of the world in the 21st Century.

To be blunt, and yes toes are going to get f*cking trodden on. If it wasn`t for the US (and a few other countries) and there f*cking gun laws I wouldn`t of lost mates at the hands of the IRA with their f*cking armalites amongst other things, most countries and terrorist organisations around the globe wouldn`t be f*cking armed in the first place, the Taliban wouldn`t be f*cking killing our brothers, Al Queda would be a joke, which would lead to less weapons making it onto the streets at home, where WE (all of us on here and brothers around the globe) try and come to peace with the shit we have done, seen and commited in the name of f*cking peace and making the world a better place.

Tuppence ain`t enough.

If you carry a gun and are not in a combat enviroment, then you are a dumb f*ck who needs kicking into next week. You wanna be a man, then stand man to man with the twat who thinks he can break into your home and teach the twat that you don`t mess with a Vet.

And stop being the f*cking cowards who need to hide behind a weapon. We are all f*cking better than that.

What the hell did we go to war for. So some sorry ass f*cking idiot who is moaning about his hard life can sleep with a glock or whatever. Sorry not on my stag. I went to f*cking war to bring peace, and not the "freedom" to decide "Ohh Shit i`m having a bad f*cking day, I`ll shoot the next tosser who wants to steal my TV"

It`s a f*cking TV, buy a new one with your insurance money. Instread of Paying it with your conscience

I would rather, be on the town with brothers who can look after themselves, and watch my back, than some one who needs a f*cking gun to be man enough to go take a piss.

My shillings worth.

Anglesachse, you have a great point. I don't want to hurt/kill, however having a firearm can help provide a sense of security. Sometimes I worry that people in my past, know my last name, therefore they can find me. I know I am not the most skilled in hand to hand combat or the next all-star baseball batter or master with any other weapon you can imagine; I know that when the lives’ of people I care about are in danger, I can shoot! Is a situation likely to happen at home, NO. Anyone that enters your home is most likely trying to rob you and does not wish to get into a physical conflict. For this reason, if you must keep a gun keep it safe don't keep the ammo in the weapon, early detection is the key. Motion sensitive lights, A DOG, home security system will all give you a heads up. at that point if they are still entering your house. You should be awake, call out a warning and hear a response from the person entering. If they leave you are probably not in danger. I will probably be your sh*t head teenager, so identify what you suspect is a target. Guns are not the only answer however; sometimes they are a necessary evil.
