Hi everyone. I have had other diagnoses, but just bought Pete Walker's book about CPTSD and am certain that I am living with this condition, have been my whole life. The source is family. There was abuse, constant psychological and emotional, occasional (severe) physical, and there was also sexual abuse from someone outwith the immediate family, plus I have experienced prolonged 're-enactment' throughout my adult life. I really hope I can get something out of joining up with this forum. I am on a waiting list for a psychologist at the moment and am trying to think of how to explain CPTSD to them since it is not officially recognised as an 'official' condition. I would love all your suggestions and recommendations. I feel a sense of relief finally knowing what this is that I have felt inside for so long.

Welcome, I am sorry for what brought you here yet you are in the right place where people here get you and understand you. Happy New Year,

Welcome, and I would simply suggest when you finally get to see someone, that you would like to see if you have PTSD... Tho C PTSD is not official... it may as well be...

Glad you found us.... this is a great healing place.. lots of support, encouragement, and validation... read around the forum, the first page is full of articles that really help, and ask questions... we don't recommend self diagnosis, but I do understand learning about something that finally makes sense, all the way around.... I was relieved when I found out I had PTSD... I finally felt hope... I wasn't JUST crazy... there were a lot of 'cause and effect' things going on...

Glad you are here !

Hi Kay :-) Welcome. I totally understand. Waiting on that same book that I ordered from Amazon. When I first heard of C-ptsd, pennies dropped and I finally had a term that's fits my experience, but it's also not recognised here. You will find lots of support and helpful info here. Even If "they" don't get it, we do. The more you get to know people in the same boat who are doing the recovery work, the more you will feel less alone, which helps in the recovery process. I'm glad you found us :-).

Hi everyone. I have had other diagnoses, but just bought Pete Walker's book about CPTSD and am certai...
Hi Kay Mouse. I, too,a am a late onset CPTSD person. Officially, my diagnosis is just PTSD. This is also compounded with panic with ongoing medical procedures. My understanding is that this year 2018, CPSTD is to be made an official category in psychological testing. Until it is, PTSD will still be used in diagnosing a patient. And, in my case, I am going to a PTSD specialist (went to him randomly). He is a retired military psychologist, in private practice. He is guiding me through Cognitive Behaviorial Therapy and customizes it for me as we journey through the childhood trauma. I am hopeful for you that when your begin sessions with a mental health professional, he/she will be versed in PTSD. You may well have this problem as it sounds likely you do. Prior to my diagnosis, I actually told my DR. that I thought I had PTSD. You might express your concern when you first meet your therapist. It does not hurt to mention it and put it on the plate of possible issues to be considered. Like you, I am new to this forum site. Nice to have another newby here! Snoop around and read the different forums. There are some nice nuggets of advise on how to cope in other's postings. You will find it is comforting to know that others are walking the same road you are to recovery. You will get support here and encouragement. Welcome.
