Is being a prepper feeding ptsd paranoia?

here's a random thought.... I'm not sure if it would help or hurt the ptsd side but might be worth a look

PTSD is based on perspective. My perspective is that I have to always be prepared for ...whatever.
If you are thinking from the perspective of prepping, contact your local emergency management office or red cross and ask about volunteering. We had a huge group of people that were trained in how to not only survive in a disaster but also how to help others around them. Working with a group like that might help you understand the realities of disasters (what they are, how to survive, how you can help) without getting sucked into the prepper drama....

As for PTSD, do you feel like your prepping is outside the realm of reason?

I'm not personally prepping at this current moment. This was more of a hypothetical. But, if I did start to build on the small preps I obtained after hurricane Irma, no. I'm cheap and don't buy into buying a bunch of useless junk. If in going to buy something it will have a bunch of uses. For emergency and everyday life. Otherwise, I can't see spending money on it.

volunteering

Im not sure how much I could volunteer physically but will look into that.

I see it this way.

We aren’t of the regular population subset.

The things that everyone else is already prepared for?

We aren’t.

We have to work hard at functioning (on various levels), stabilizing our moods and overall well being, grounding ourselves, and so on.

These are the ways we should focus on prepping ourselves for an emergency (beyond the basics of food supply, water, etc).

Because if we don’t have the basics down?

All of the rest of this “prepping” stuff is for naught.

Just my opinion.

But yes, ANY topic that has the potential to make us feel unsafe can cause paranoia, and if you’ve got ptsd, it can make symptoms worse.

I just can't see spending that kind of money on

I think in a lot of your posts things go back to this, equaling preparedness (which I see rather as a mindset and access to resources, knowing how and where to obtain them and utilize, what you need and what you can go without and alternatives) with money and then spinning yourself over that... why?

Also that going with what if on homelessness or needing to be mobile or power outages is... at times I just eyerolled, wanting to say Normal life / common / not a big deal unless also acutely sick at the moment, that kind of stuff. More anxiety talking than necessary, maybe?
If you are homeless *just* homelessness and getting food and water is not the main and only problem, it can get worked around waaay easier than being homeless in an area that also has high crime, hostile and paranoid other homeless folk, or govt policies that street scum altogether is bad publicity and needs be moved. So you would again be back to Where am I, with who, what is the culture of this place, how do I navigate this particular situation and group of people, what and who can aid me, what does not. Videos do not tell you that, minding your surroundings does.

That's why I edited in the question a bit more clear and was trying to be clear that I have not and will not spend any money on prepping until my normal daily life was figured out. That's called being stupid in my opinion.
the only thing I think I’ll buy in the near future is a silk cock key as it's very inexpensive and is the only way to get water off the side of public buildings. It serves for an emergency or homeless.
So, you’re not going to buy things...except for this one thing?

I’m not pointing this out to start a fight. It would be good for you to see the contradictions in how you’re thinking about this stuff.
And its why I came across these videos. Preparing and learning skills in case I end up homeless.
You ending up homeless is tied to you managing your money.

Watching prepping videos in case you become homeless, instead of spending time making meal plans and tightening your food/luxuries budget - that’s a perfect example of getting sucked into paranoia.

If it’s not paranoia, then you’re creating a crisis where there is merely a problem, not a crisis.

So, which is it? Both are examples of symptomatic behavior.

Yes, I'm not going to buy anything but THINKING ABOUT buying this one thing. This is not why I created this thread. I thought this would be a cool subject to discuss, generaly. This has nothing to do with me. I haven't bought a damn thing and struggling just the same. God forbid if I want to discuss a subject in general terms.

I am sick and cannot think straight. Watching videos is all I can do at the moment. Give me a god damn break.
