Wellbutrin / Bupropion experiences?

I’m just wondering what other people’s experiences are with Wellbutrin aka bupropion.

I’m on day 2 now. I feel a little amped which I suppose to be expected, I’m just hoping this one works well for me as I can’t take most other antidepressants.

Thanks!

Nobody has taken this medication?

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given that it’s a very activating medication!

I've been taking it for about 10 years... I tried every SSRI under the sun before that, and quickly realized that they made me gain a LOT of weight. After complaining constantly, I read about Wellbutrin, and decided to try it. It really helps me deal with life without side effects like weight gain.

Every once in a while, I get in a "I don't need Wellbutrin any more" moods and stop. And within weeks of stopping, people start noticing how depressed and upset I am... So I end up back on it and feeling better.

I'm on wellbutrin, have been for quite a while. It's very helpful to me.

This is definitely normal. It has a stimulant effect on most people. You do want to monitor it - from posts I've read on here, it's sometimes the reason people end up not tolerating it well. I'm assuming you're taking it early, so it doesn't interfere with sleep...

It stands a good chance. The mechanism of action in buproprion is different from both SSRIs and SNRIs.

Keep us posted - I hope it goes well.

Does anyone know the major difference (other than half life) of immediate release vs sustained release? I know immediate release gets into your body faster. Thanks!

You might just have to try both to see which one you prefer. I started out with the immediate release, but I had to take it every 12 hours, and it seemed to always hit me like a ton of bricks. When I switched to sustained release, one pill laster 24 hours, and it felt "softer". I've been on sustained release now for years.

Your mileage may vary. ?

The mood crashes are back and I’m so anxious.

I told my mom I’d go inpatient again tomorrow. I promised her I’d keep myself safe because I don’t want to go to the ER. (I can go to a private hospital.) She’s going to have fun explaining to the relatives where I am.... I’m going to miss Christmas.

I’m doing so bad right now.

Apparently the “Wellbutrin honeymoon” is a real thing.....3 days of feeling great, oftentimes a crash or slump on day 4, and then it can be up/down until your body is acclimated, which can take 4-6 weeks.

I’m doing ok, no more mood wonkiness.

My prescribing doc saw me on day 5 and told me to stick with it. At this point I’m glad I did.

When I tried it, it raised my blood pressure to pre-hypertension. If that is what that feels like, I would hate to know what hypertension feels like.
