How long did it take before you started noticing improvement?

I haven't been dealing with this for very long at all, so im curious how long it took for you guys to start managing better and for general quality of life to improve.
Also, do you think that treatment is absolutely necessary to get better?

For me, it has been gradual with a roller coaster effect during trauma work. (On my second therapist). I would say life functioning started to improve after 6 months with my good therapist. Unfortunately, a rupture in that relationship pushed me back a bit. Now, 6 months later, I’m starting to learn real trust and starting to look inward more, for my coping and healing. I like to track my progress with an assessment tool I found on an ap called “PTSD coach.” Interestingly, even when I don’t feel that I am doing better, I check the graph and notice a downward trend. You don’t have to be a veteran for that ap. It works for all ptsd. Anyone that says there is a quick fix...?. If you had ongoing trauma or multiple traumas, this takes time.

It took years. Not saying that to discourage you. Many treatments today were not available when I first started this healing journey. And there were no trauma therapists that specialized. So, have no way of knowing if I would have made faster progress.

And yes, for me, it was imperative I had outside help and guidance thru the maze of feelings, depression, anxiety and the simple fact I did not know what was happening.

Yeah i don't really expect it to be an easy journey. Kind of reluctant to start treatment though, i feel like it might be too triggering. That will be the next goal i suppose.
So glad i found you guys and this forum! :)

It will be triggering. That is where the healing is. And if you have the right therapist for you, as hard as it may be at times, you will start to make progress. We have to 'feel it to heal it'. Sounds hard and it is. But not impossible and not forever and forever. We are able to put many things behind us and lay them to rest. And continue on to have a life we never imagined.

We are also glad you found us. I can come here and always know I am not alone in my struggles, and in my achievements.
