Ask a foreigner

ive never met or heard of an american that isnt aware of electric kettles...
pretty sure every walmart carries them....

Oh, I just met one a couple days ago at work :hilarious:

They're available to buy, yes, but I know a handful of people at most here in the states who actually uses them and the minority of that handful is actually born in America.

Even when an electric kettle is available in the office (because I brought it in and keep using it), my co-worker would continue using the microwave. Like...waaaaahhhhh.....

Canada might be different.

heh- yeh no... who buys that outmoded stuff anymore? thats why i said they're "aware"they exist

im sure my parents have one collecting dust in a cupboard-prolly has a few dead bugs in it
Canada might be different.

True, canada is better .... water cooler with the option for hot.... much faster than electric kettle.... mmm

Ok, so assuming Canada is better (just going on what I've been told here...which I note is in stark contrast to the very instructive manual to understanding all things of international importance - namely, South Park, which has instructed me that Canada is to blame for...everything) - is there fluoride in the water that comes out of your taps in the States?

What are you all talking about? :hilarious:

Can someone tell me why you don't use your electric kettles? For Gods sake! None of you are making sense today and you are as all  as hatters. What does that even mean??

@Sideways - I blame you! Of course Americans have got electric kettles. China makes sure of that :sneaky:

Why don't you use them then?? Microwave ovens... why would you?? ugh.. :)

ETA This is almost a human rights issue. Not only do they not have TimTams, but they can't even knock up a decent instant hot chocolate to do TimTam Slams. Someone should write to the UN.
We have them here, but.. and it's a big BUT.... Like any other imported confectionary (such as jaffa cakes, or any and all "authentic European chocolate") it does not contain the same ingredients, nor does it taste as good. Might as well buy a Hershey's bar. ?

Outrage is big business these days!
It seems like the only business these days, remember when they used to sell good news every once in a while?

Those 3 prong plug in things are complicated you know. Besides if I can't use it in the bath without electrocuting myself, it ain't worth owning. ?

I don't know for real, though you'd be surprised how many people I've had to explain to, that distilled water is not better for you because it doesn't contain minerals, and how unbelievably-f*cking-dangerous it is to microwave boil.
I own an electric kettle, that thing's great. It was like $10 at the Superstore. Unlike the microwave, I don't have to figure out how to set the clock every daylight savings. If it breaks, who cares? It's cheaper to replace than a pack of cigs.

I have another question:
Why is distilled water so hard to get and expensive in the UK?
Where I work we literally have a pallet of the stuff on hand and any given time. It's about $4 for a 4L jug.
A guy I work with just got back from Ireland, he said he couldn't find it anywhere for less than £20. (His kid uses a humidifier at night. Why you need more humidity in the UK is totally beyond my comprehension but whatever... lol)

and most European nationalities just have a "look." I can't describe it.
Americans hold their eyebrows 1/5th of an inch higher than Europeans do, and rest our weight on 1 foot, instead of spreading weight evenly across 2. It’s part of why we look arrogant/cocky & EU folk look serious/intent. To viewers vis versa wise. ;) To homeskillets, of course, people just look “normal”.

It’s much like the difference between taking a photo of someone jumping up and someone falling down. The EYE knows, even if the mind doesn’t, that whilst the overt cues are the same, the subtle ones are “wrong”. We might not know why they’re wrong, but they just are.

If you ever see kids with brow creases like a 30yo? They usually moved to the US between 5-10. Young enough to reshape their orbital muscles to hold their eyebrows in the “right” place, too old to do it seamlessly. It’s an unconscious mirroring that kids do that drastically changes the shape of their face, depending on where they grew up. Some of the facial reconstruction software archeologists and LEOs use? Have those inputs. It’s amaaaaaazing how different the same face looks raised in different places! :D

But where are your coffee machines?? Where are the Brazillian, Italian, whereever blends that you get with REAL coffee? And why do they always use drip coffee?
I’ve got a bialetti 6 cup mokapot ... but everyone else I know uses either drip or French Press or Cold Brew. Actual espresso machines are fairly rare. Americans like coffee flavored water :wtf: (our version of tea, really), not coffee-coffee, as a rule.

You'd think I was claiming I enjoyed putting ketchup on my cornflakes. ?
Clearly... that should be mayonnaise.
