News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

It was taking him WAY too long to get to what ever his point was

^I know, in love with his own voice but nothing important to say. Boring ugh...

You would think that a legitimate doctor of something would show up in an online search, wouldn't you? (I would)

^Yes, which is why he did not post his qualifications or area of expertise?

On the other hand, maybe he printed his own diploma.

^Yeah that too. lol

I went to YouTube and reported it.

^Yay - finally! Thank you!

He may not be a doctor but he's surely f*cked in the head.

^Clearly an accurate diagnosis. lol

He's a chiropractor.

^ Oh well then, this explains everything. He just wanted to be a part of the 'noise' & add to it. ugh.. :hilarious:

A chiropractor is not a medical doctor, epidemiologist, or virologist, and it is against the policies of their regulatory body to peddle cures or treatments for illness such as covid-19. Several chiropractors in my country have lost their license to practice for claiming to have a "cure" for autism, and another was recently fined and is facing higher sanctions for posting a covid "cure" consisting of, among other things, over the counter vitamins.

Any responsible medical practitioner will not peddle "cures" or "treatments" for covid, because they know that neither currently exist. The experts aren't even entirely sure how this thing is spread (aerosol/droplet-surgical mask vs airborne-N95 debate), and treatment currently consists of supportive care as symptoms arise.

Any "medical practitioner" that peddles this BS is a quack, full stop and should be reported to their regulatory body ASAP. All medical practitioners have legal, ethical, and professional standards that they MUST follow in order to maintain their license to practice.

It's really up to people to educate themselves about this virus, and to recognize that medicine is not yet at the treatment or "cure" stage for it. If an article or video claims to have either, move on because it's a lie.

I've worked in health care for most of my adult life, and I've seen first hand the suffering and death (yeah, DEATH!) that results when people buy into quackery at face value because someone who claims to be a [insert expert here] has the cure for [insert condition here]. To be honest, I walk away from those calls in disgust thinking what a f*cking idiot. We live in an age with unprecedented access to education and accurate information, if we can pull ourselves away from fakebook and twitter and pull out heads out of arses long enough to do some actual research.

Accurate research will NEVER start with "my friend" told me/showed me/sent me/gave me/texted me. That is a huge red flag that what you are about to be presented with is BS. Accurate research will always indicate who/what/where/how/when/why. Who did the research? when was it done? how many patients/variables were involved? How was it conducted (ideally double blind)? where was it conducted? when was it published and where? is it peer reviewed? how are the results presented (graphs, images, stats)? what is the error rate? why was it conducted?

Don't peddle conspiracy. It's an insult to those who are ill, those who have died, and those who are working so hard to keep everyone alive. Instead, take the time to thank a doctor/nurse/first responder/grocer/trucker/sanitation worker/pharmacist/funeral director/lab assistant/lab tech/anyone working in an essential service/etc. who is actively risking their arse (and their family's) to save yours, or ask a neighbour/senior/someone with a disability/essential worker what they need or how you can help them out today.

If you want a good doc to follow on Youtube, I'd suggest this resource: MedCram - Medical Lectures Explained CLEARLY

This doc has been on Youtube for ages, and has been doing videos on the virus since the very start of the outbreak in China. He actually has a video on zinc, and various other suggested treatments, and discusses studies as they come out. He goes through the science, the pros and cons. He doesn't advocate for this or that medication or treatment, he simply explains things in a really calm and clear manner.

This is the page on all his coronavirus videos: www.youtube.com/user/MEDCRAMvideos/videos

People like this is going to get a lot of people killed. Everything he said is false and it suprises me that a nurse, my sister is a nurse, would spread this nonesense. Terrifies me!

I stopped listening when he talked about "fake news." For a physician, this is about the most unprofessional public display I've seen (and I've worked with doctors since the early 80s).

It is definitely going to get worse before it gets better. If J wasn't working now we would be screwed. Employment benefits have not been distributed yet. Going into week 4.

I quit my job shortly before sh*t hit the fan and now the job I lined up is on hold. And it will likely not pan out, as it involves standardized testing and many states are cancelling that for the year. I have NO income and no savings. And...I'm not eligible for unemployment. Good times. ?

People are going to get bigger unemployment checks as part of the save but you can't file a claim because there are so many people calling in its crashing the system

And not everyone is eligible. Sucks.

The sad thing is the American mentality. In Florida they are still allowing churches to meet with zero social distancing even though they know people are going to die. But they don't care. Because it's their "right" and if that kills someone else? Not their problem. I keep seeing that over and over... "The government can't tell me what to do" because that's what's important to us. Even if hundreds of thousands have to die...we must have our rights to do whatever we want. It's depressing.

Ohio, too. There's a megachurch in Cincinnati that is still holding services. The absolute arrogance of people in this country is unbelievable. Kentucky just enacted an executive order that people gathering in large crowds will be fined and quarantined for 2 weeks.

But if it's demographic is lots of elder citizens then they will find themselves in a pickle because our elders do not do well with it.

My uncle just got back from 3 months in Florida - he said where he was - Naples - the streets are completely empty.

I've got no chocolate!

Oh, this is the scariest thing I have heard all day! LOL

you cant fix stupid, but it makes good TV and that's probably why we know or care about it. Was that the goal? did the church alert the press or was it a journalist calling to see if they were going to fill the pews? Cameras on site, were they invited?

Here, journalists are interviewing congregants.

My state has deemed plumbers, electricians, and other "home maintenance" freelancers to still be essential.

So...I do understand this, but have you seen the list of essential vs. non-essential businesses? There are at least twice as many essential. I get needing a plumber or maybe an electrician, but I think they should only be allowed to handle emergencies. Around here, people are using the time to work on their houses.

The belief that [xyz] medication/vitamin/substance won't or can't hurt you is complete BS. Every substance, in the wrong dose or delivery method, or in conjunction with other medication/vitamin/substance, or in conjunction with other medical conditions, can cause illness, injury, or be fatal. You can actually overdose on zinc and vitamin C (that's not a challenge to try it BTW). You can also fatally OD on just plain water too.

Very true. And giving dosages over a youtube video to thousands of strangers IS dispensing medical advice.

Quinine will "cure" Covid-19. Load up on it. Its in a certian kind of tonic water. Get it now. And, "take back your freedom". Apparently, this social distancing goes against his "freedom" of living his life so he wants us all to dose up on quinine, as much as possible and then, I guess, rise up against authority to "take back freedom".

I'm impressed. I apparently didn't get that far. LOL This doctor does not belong on youtube spouting political rhetoric.

have you seen the list of essential vs. non-essential businesses?
Yeah - you are correct, many unexpected things are considered essential (in my state).

I don't think there's any practical way to mandate what you're suggesting. Not saying you're wrong - just that the effort that would go into enforcing something like "only emergencies" would be energy our enforcement offices can spend better elsewhere.

Individual citizens are just as responsible for monitoring their own actions. As you're saying - it's not a vacation, its a pandemic. Sometimes what people need to do is be quiet and just stay out of the way - that would be my advice to those private citizens using the time to work on their renovations.

I do hope society in the US will see an overall uptick in applying individual responsibility, even after this crisis has lessened.

Is that in the video??? I didn't make it past the shuffling of papers and "my friend" told me about... blah blah... amazing blah blah. RED FLAG! Giving dosing instructions (via youtube or otherwise) probably isn't in his scope of practice, so yeah if someone follows that advice and ends up sick, I see a malpractice lawsuit in his future.

That's how it is where I am. And you have to leave the house while they're working too.

Oh yeah, totally agree. Can't even get people to stay in or stop meeting in large groups.

Yep. Not with regard to prescription meds, but prescription or not, it's not safe. Any substance can be dangerous if taken in the wrong way.

So suddenly here there is talk of hoping to end the 'state of emergency' by the end of the month. I mean official talk by the people in power. And that the most critical data to decide that would be from now until 20th. It's what we've been waiting to hear since this began, but somehow I don't believe it.

I am not sure if I'm just mistrustful, but come on- it's almost mid of the month, and we have only been having strickter measures all the time. How exactly does that person think that in 10 days after 20th he'll manage to reverse all the measures taken? Unless he removes all restrictions at once, which I feel might reverse the good effects of the whole isolation thing.

I am also definitely scared of what world are we returning to, because it's clearer by the day that this situation won't go away fast and there will be fallout. There will be changes when it's over. I guess in the absence of other ways to change what is going on, I should sit down and figure out what is it I'm afraid will happen and how to approach it.

Basically what I told my sister. Oddly, a nurse. So, I didn't thank her but pretty much your reply is what I told her. That and specifics about what this virus does, advised from this thread and how deadly and serious this is.

Where abouts do you live? Just curious where this is.

My uncle just got back from 3 months in Florida - he said where he was - Naples - the streets are completely empty

Orlando roads arent completely empty but about 80% less cars. The amount of cars has increased but not by a lot. And it depends on when you go out and where you go. Sometimes there are no cars at all but there are additional cars leaving the apartment complex as well. More motocycles then a week ago.

Serbia. The reason I'm questioning it is that there have been no signs of anything getting easier or better so seems rather sudden. Also the person that said it is a politician, not epidemologist. The epidemologist and doctor said 1 month hopefully. Though they are all in agreement that we should now be in the worst part and should have solid data to judge by on 20th, so I guess we'll see.
I'm going by 'I'll believe it when I see it' kind of thing. Let's be honest, end of state of emergency may not mean end of social isolation completely, but it could mean businesses and stores reopening and to me that would be helpful. It could also mean being able to at least see some friends for coffee in person finally. But as I said- going by 'let's wait and see' cause at this point anything is possible.
