News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

No, it’s not apparent to me why many with one infectious disease drown to the point of bankruptcy in medical debt but others do not. It’s for the public good that people do not have to choose between infectious disease testing for AIDS, measles, etc along with covid 19 testing or buying food - yet that is a reality many face in the US. Also. I had to pay for a covid 19 test for which I’m still waiting for results 2 weeks later. Testing is not free across the board and treatment costs are not at all being waived.

As for the hospital charging you for the test do not pay it and send a copy of the bill to your US attorney’s office. It’s in the Cares Act. The hospital can not charge for it and will be held responsible for price gouging under the Defense Production Act and the Cares Act

Sorry - there was zero intention on my part to spark a debate about the costs of healthcare generally. This isn't the thread for a discussion like that.

I was simply pointing out that this virus has turned economies upside globally, appears to warrant the curtailing civil liberties en masse, and caused governments to pump trillions of dollars into rescue packages of all manner. Globally.

It's not about comparing diseases, or the merits of free public healthcare. The necessary steps required to get the world through this global pandemic has changed all the rules. Including really fundamental ones, like "am I free to walk down the street".

Given the costs involved in getting us through this, the lengths governments are having to go to, to get us to the other side of this - it makes no sense to me that a government would ask individual citizens to shoulder the cost of testing for covid. That small cost, in the scheme of what this virus is costing us (not just economically), makes no sense to me, since testing is at the core of getting this pandemic under control.

I'm not trying to be argumentative. But the rulebook has been thrown out the window to try and get this thing under control. And testing, specifically testing, is at the very core of getting this thing under control.

I'm all for free public health - but that's a completely seperate issue to how critical it is to identify where the virus hotspots are, and getting them under control.

The steps required for managing this pandemic are patently different to the rules and policies we apply in our ordinary lives. Given the importance of testing in the battle to get all of our lives back to normal, not offering that for free makes no sense to me. It makes no sense to me that the rule about who usually pays the pathology bill is one of the few rules that a government wouldn't be prepared to shift on.

Remember to Thank China!!!!!!

Who the f*ck cares? I want to know where we are, what we are doing next, when we will have our lives back! We watch the White House updates for f*cking updates! For f*ck sake!
Jesus! What a dumpster fire! What the f*ck am i am even watching! Never have I watched a White House Press Conf like this!

My thoughts exactly. I stopped watching when he gleefully noted "he", not the coronavirus was number 1 on facebook. Really?

Knock me over with a feather! People here in Australia are actually booking tickets on cruise liners. :banghead: Whilst we are still trying to provide medicine & bury the dead from the last ship that disembarked on our shores.

Now if there ever was a floating petri dish then they are it. We've just spent so many millions getting passengers off, treating them, quarantining them and on and on etc..

The Health Minister has told them to not do it unless they have an iron clad travel insurance policy. The travel insurance sector made it known waaay back then that they will never cover covid19. So do they think the Australian government/tax payer will bail them off another ship when they all start getting sick?? When does this lunacy stop?

The WHO is backing China's decision to reopen wet markets. Widely reported, but for example:
WHO on China's wet markets

I mentioned earlier in this thread (well and truly lost the post by now) referencing the WHO's failure to implement its own anti-corruption recommendations after it's botched handling of a 2016/17 Ebola outbreak.

But this really sets a new standard in idiotic world health recommendations. Sentences that begin with "The WHO recommends..." now have about as much credibility as sentences that begin with "My friend forwarded me this Youtube post..."

Press briefing said if you do not have it by Wednesday to go to the irs web page and update your banking information

The "get my payment" tracker is where you update you banking info if you filed a tax return '19 and/or '18.

Economic Impact Payments | Internal Revenue Service

Half way down the page. Its not clickable yet as it will not open until Wed so you do have to wait until Wed as that's where the checking account info is updated, per their site.

Lupus patients and people with malaria can't get their meds because Dear Leader is insisting that he knows what will cure corona and people are demandi

Yeah, Lupus meds have been in a shortage this entire time. And there is no other treatment for Lupus, per the news.

"Lupus patients and people with malaria can't get their meds because Dear Leader is insisting that he knows what will cure corona and people are demanding it from their doctors."

Not this entire time (re: lupis meds and those with rare diseases which require off label use for disease management) - My girlfriend in FWB FL was able to get her 3 month Rx refilled just about 2/12 weeks ago. Others in her rare genetic disease support group not so lucky but are in other states. Not a federal issue.
