Hey everyone. I am not sure if most people on here are from the US or UK(because of language, but so many people like me know English these days...)

I was just wondering if anyone is seeing signs of this getting better around them. I know it's been weeks, not months, for the most part but I have very warped sense of time when I'm anxious. I need to constantly remind myself that this will end. Someone talked about it ending by the end of this month here and I just don't see it happening- it took them so long to slowly make all measures more restricted, so I don't see them lifting them all at once. The most I can imagine is maaaaybe mid-May, but leaning more towards June.

For the restrictions being lifted, not for everything getting back to normal, because I know some things might take a lot longer.

My county has less than 50 of 700k residents infected really shouldn’t be closed. Only 4 cases in the hospital and I can’t go have a kidney stone removed because it is considered an elective surgery since I have 2 kidneys. One functioning and one only functioning at 20% because of the blockage from the stone.

That stinks! Sitting here with you! I need surgery too but nothing I can do. Our numbers keep slowing climbing up. We have right around 30 deaths

my county is just over 100K with number of cases right around 25 I think, no outbreaks. It is kind of amazing since most of us work outside the county and working from home is spotty because of horrible 1960's phone lines in plenty of homes. The local phone guys are working a lot of OT. The rest are farmers and farm work. They invented social distancing. Local businesses are closed of course, we are under a stay at home, save lives order. It has been working but the future is not good if the economics keep disappearing.

I am sure there are many that think this is not as bad as we are being told it is. They are the ones I worry about in my county.

The West coast was the epicenter at the start and our cases are way down so yes - the social distancing and shut down is working. The west coast governors are working together to figure out how they can start trickling businesses open again, though it may be into late May.

The response was extreme but it worked. There are still areas where cases are climbing, people are still dying and the first responders still don't have the equipment they need but it's nothing like it would have been if they hadn't shut us down.

Economically it's been a disaster for some but not as many as the news is reporting because most people are working from home. The service industry was hit hard and for them it is a nightmare. But right now our unemployment is at about 13%. True - that's millions of people out of work but it also means almost 90% of the people who were working before are still working today.

So yes - things are getting better. Slowly

The east and west coast governors are on the wrong side of the US Constitution, Article I, Section 10 paragraph three. "“No state shall, without the consent of Congress, … enter into any agreement or compact with another state”.."
Blue States/Red States... It begins, the Economic Civil War (US) Have a nice day.

"“No state shall, without the consent of Congress, … enter into any agreement or compact with another state”.."
....unless actually invaded or in such imminent danger as will not admit of delay.

basically the paragraph disallows states to impose international tarrifs or keep troops in peacetime or engage in acts of war, foreign or domestic, or to form coalitions to do the same unless approved by congress.

It's pretty fast and loose to say that an agreement between states to ignore a federal order is a civil war. hell, a county sherrif or state AG can refuse to obey a federal order under the tenth ammendment.

So we're going into civil war? Wait, im confused.
The west coast did this at the beginning -- the governors worked with each other to make sure they were on the same page with how to deal with corona because they weren't getting any guidance from the feds. Now that it's hopefully passing there is still no guidance so they are doing the same thing to get us back up and running again. They aren't blocking federal orders. They came up with a plan because there are no federal orders.

There are multiple theories about a civil war coming because the coasts are doing stuff differently than the midwest and trumps going to declare marshal law and the military are going to start arresting people and blah blah blah. People are scared because during a disaster the president can bipass both congress and the constitution under emergency order acts and pretty much do whatever he wants. A lot of the vets I know are gearing up so they are ready to fight when "they" come to take their guns and what not. I could see it happening because we are so divided right now in our belief systems we are basically a powder keg.

Occurring right now however.... corona in the bronx
That scares me way more than a civil war does.
