starting to realize I suffer from dissociation

this is my first post.

i am in a dissociated state most of the time. My self seems to be divided in to parts and pieces. loosing contact with my surroundings and my self.. feeling unreal.

I went through a long benzodazepine withdrawal and recovery period, that lasted almost two years, and so i assumed these feelings where part of the withdrawal and i would recover. but now I’ve been off benzos for two years and i feel my dissociation is getting worst.

what kind of therapy works for dissociation?

thanks

Hello and welcome! I'm glad you're here.
I believe any good trauma therapy would deal with the dissociation. In trauma therapy there should be 3 distinct phases (that can be visited throughout the duration of the treatment).

1-safety and stabilization
2-working on trauma memories
3-integration of the work done

In the 1st phase you will learn how to ground yourself and be present, so you can do psychotherapy as safe as possible. That's where any good trauma therapist will start. They will revisit that phase if crisis or destabilization were to happen.

Current research on trauma insist on the importance of working with the body, so somatic approaches such as somatic experiencing or sensorimotor therapy should help.

At times, EMDR could be helpful but it tends to be employed when one can ground oneself.

Talk therapy is also effective. CBT and DBT teach you how to reframe thoughts and work on emotions.

IFS And parts work seems to be effective as well when the client struggles with fragmentation or the presence of different parts (in broad terms).

In my opinion effective trauma therapy will be the result of an eclectic approach, using techniques from different models and adapting them to what the client is needing.

I would look for a therapist with experience on treating trauma, PTSD and possibly dissociative disorders.
