Is it possible...?

Hi all,

Is it possible to make a full recovery from PTSD, if you have had it for a few months???

Just thought I'd ask as it seems the longer it goes on the worse chance you have of recovery..

The long and short of it is that PTSD is not a curable disorder. Once you have it, you have it for good. (For now. I believe that we'll see advancements in this area within my lifetime.) You can manage PTSD and recover and live a fulfilling life with it, but it will be with you in some form, permanently. That's the nature of trauma. Are you diagnosed with it?

Hi,

I haven't been diagnosed with it but I've all the symptoms.

I'm so mad I might have it grr

I read that it's quite possible for ptsd to go dormant.. I'm hoping that it will

I'd recommend seeking a professional, because in fact, if you've only had these symptoms for a few months? That's actually not within the diagnostic criteria to be categorized as PTSD. PTSD requires at least six months of symptoms. It may end up being PTSD, if it persists, that's just semantics essentially. But I'd hold the line and let it simmer and seek out what support you can in your community. That's the best way to tame the dragon.

I don't think I agree. All of lifes experiences change us. Saying it is permanent implies you will always experience it the way you are experiencing it now. For some of us, it changes us yes but the experience also evolves and is manageable and tolerable or becomes less of a front and center thing that affects how we live our lives every day.
Saying it is permanent is like saying experiencing chocolate is permanent. Once you have, it is there forever, you are on the chocolate bus. Ice mochas everyday for life? Nah

Don't be mad - just go get help.

Hope has nothing to do with any of it.

@Weemie is right - you may not be dealing with PTSD at this point. But it's not unusual to struggle after major shit goes down in one's life. Figuring out how to confront and ultimately accept and then more forward from whatever it is that is affecting you - that's what will make a difference.

Stop wondering about it, and start figuring out how to get help from qualified people you can trust.
