New Here
My name is Val.
Im 40 and i have CPTSD.
Im not here for sympathy - just to talk to others to see if i can help or be helped.
The title is what my therapist and doc etc have said.
Im not sure if it’s meant to make me feel grateful for still being here.

Hi and welcome to the forums. This is a good place. Especially if you read and post, so you get feedback. Some of the input people has is honest and not meant to give sympathy but to challenge you to healing. Take what helps and leave the rest.

Today has been a harder day than most and I don’t know why. All I know is that I feel overly stupid sharing things with the one person I have who needs my support at the moment and rather it all be about me / thought I’d try and find a place where ppl are like me…. Which sounds silly but I hope it makes sense.

Hi Val

Welcome, I hope you find some comfort here. I'm in my 30s with CPTSD and (nearly a diagnosis of) DID

It doesn't sound silly, it makes perfect sense to want support from those around you that you love AND for that support not to be available because of their own needs/ difficulty/ own stuff going on etc. It's not stupid, we all need to be heard and to feel care. 🫂

Welcome to the forum!

Good to have you on board. Good that you’re still here - that’s not something you need to be grateful for, but it is awesome. And hopefully it starts getting easier soon:)

hello val. welcome to the forum. sorry for what brings you here, but glad you are here.

in my own case, i might summarize the "but you're still here" as a collective attempt to help me see that i am a survivor and have the substance to go from survivor to thriver. i think. i am always hesitant to summarize what other people are thinking and it has been a very long time since anyone has said that to me. these days i typically say it before anyone else can. i even use it to self-soothe while i am fielding the wicked curve balls life keeps sending me.

Aloha! 😎

One of my FAVORITE posts… of all time >>> Sympathy - It Is Creeping Back Here

Sympathy? Is total bullshit for trauma. Doesn’t help at all, and worse, hurts & gets people stuck. Normal life woes? Sure, great, fine, useful even. But when dealing with trauma & PTSD? It misses the mark so much as to be shooting backwards. >.<

My absolute favorite post? This one. Useful both immediately AND long term. >>> The ptsd cup explanation

Welcome 🤠
