I'm wondering what tactics/tips you use when you need to find comfort. Something that helps you feel calm or safe or just generally warm and fuzzy. Whether it's a bubble bath or doing crafts... I'm just looking for some new ideas :barefoot:
being covered with lots of blankets in my bed
meditating
journaling in the community area at my church
spending time with *good* friends
Listening to music on my ipod loud while reading or journaling at a coffee shop
I like to burn scented candles. I used to like shoe shopping but it does nothing for me now.
Calling my friends and asking them to just randomly talk to me, laying in bed, hot showers, music, movies/tv, crocheting, baking, reading, throwing knives, shooting, candles, walks, playing with my dog, etc etc etc.
When it is really bad, I nest under the covers. Sometimes I listen to sacred music. Or, I pray rosaries. It depends on how functional I am. When I was at my worst, I lit candles in a cathedral near where I live. There happened to be a Shrine of Saint Jude there. (patron saint of desperate and hopeless cases.)
Sometimes I chant mantras or listen to audio recordings of other people chanting.
I also have the habit of reading autobiographies and biographies to see how people have made it through their lives. Writing also helps me.

I like to sit hugging my dogs. if the dogs are unco-operative I have a teddy to hug.
I will do breathing and grounding
I will smell essential lemon oil.
I will light scented candles
I will do a visualisation exercise which my T recorded for me.
I will write in my grateful for book and read my affirmation book.
Hugging my kids or my pets is a good fix, even for a short while.
Cooking and baking. Painting and drawing. Playing the piano or the sax. Playing a video game. Reading and writing. Working.
And on my worst days- Running. It worked for Forest...
Celtic music or the 'Moody Blues' is my fix ... and watching my 'critters' visiting my SHIRE. Just the sound of a helicopter or a 'fast mover' (war plane) can ruin the rest of my day. Hope they stay away. Peace ~
I dont know precisly what I need or do to comfort myself.
I eat chocolate or licourish to comfort myself. I'll buy luxury foods or fruit eventough I cant afford it, just to comfort myself.
I allow myself to procrastinate on difficult things, some days to comfort myself.
Thats it basically.
