I'm not gonna go there with you anthony. I do see where you are coming from though, and as someone who once lived with and loved a journalist for the Department of Immigration, who was also a scottish immigrant whose family came here legally, I know that the issue is not an easy one for the government and I don't envy the person in charge of that (is it still Amanda Vanstone?)
I think until we walk a mile in someone elses shoes, it's hard to know what desperate circumstances made them decide to take an alternative like risking their lives and their childrens lives on a boat to be smuggled to a place where they want to have a life free from torture and oppression. I certainly don't believe that putting children in jail/detention is healthy psychologically, and whether it's the parents fault or not, it's wrong to inflict that on children for their parents mistake...regardless of how many perks they may receive that other members of the Australian community are not privy to, and how unfair that is.
