I'm unsure if mine provide solace in any direct sense, but they mean things to me:
  • Muddy Waters: Still a Fool
  • Neil Young: Helpless, Don't Let it Bring You Down, ....
  • Doors: The Wasp
  • Pink Floyd: Hey You, Wish You Were Here, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Us and Them, Another Brick in the Wall, Mother, Comfortably Numb....
  • Joni Mitchell: Woodstock (CSNY version)
  • Phish: Heavy Things
  • Bruce Cockburn: Lovers in a Dangerous Time
  • Blues Image: Ride Captain Ride
Too many more to count....

oh yes @WillyKat Ride Captain Ride! The Wall *so many emotions associated with this album I can't separate them* @ButterflyDisco Nirvana <3 I was in 9th grade when I heard Kurt Cobain sing and it tore pieces from me, then remade them. <3 Lana Del Ray's lyrics, but not always her melodies.

@WildMermaid ive always been focused on lyrics...i wasnt even alive when kurt cobain died, but when he snarls out "i am anemic royalty"...it speaks to me.
With Lana Del Ray, there's 2 reasons why i rest on ride alot..."i am alone at midnight, been trying hard not to get into trouble, but ive got war in my mind", and "im tired of feeling like im f*cking crazy"...just speak to my soul...they make me feel not so alone...
the first time i heard ride, i fell on my knees and wept...it's so powerful....

Trouble, Sitting, Jzero, Morning Has Broken, and some more Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) Edited to add: Into White, On the Road to Find Out, The Wind....

I remember the first cassette player I had I took to the desert for a week with my grandparents and on that trip I memorized all of Catch Bull at Four and Numbers.

Also Tuesday's Dead and Change IV

I listened to a lot of Loggins and Messina too. But have to think about that as I'm on a Cat binge now.

Yay, songs! Music therapy is, well, the only kind I like.

Looking at this list, these are definitely not all happy songs, but I think they fit the self compassion theme.

"Happy songs"
Counting Stars- One Republic
Life for rent- Dido (You might not agree, but I think it's an upbeat message)
Praise you in this storm- Casting Crowns
For crying out loud- Meatloaf, just because it's one of my favorite songs ever
(The next two songs I always see as very similar to each other)
Dark Night of the Soul- Loreena McKennit
Everything- Lifehouse
The entirety of the
Some ppl have real problems album (Sia)
Supposed former infatuation junkie album (Alanis Morissette)

Not so happy songs...
Never is a promise- Fiona Apple
I tear up thinking about it, but there's something uplifting there
Silent all these year- Tori Amos
Winter- Tori Amos (oh, kills me)
Feel so different- Sinead O'Connor
Stretched on your grave... Sinead O'Connor
Maybe that whole album
Sort of similarly- Isobel, Dido
The damn Kenny Loggins song The Real Thing, also totally kills me and is always getting stuck in my head but has an empowering thing going on beneath the miserable.

Cool thread!

Jason Mraz ft. James Morrisson - Details in the Fabric
Jason Mraz - I won't give up
Venice - Landslide
Venice - Cool me down
Venice - End of the World
The Beatles - Hey Jude (one of my favourites :) )
P!nk - Try
P!nk - Just give me a reason
Lady Gaga - Born this way
