Satuma

New Here
Hello,

I registered on this forum because I´ve been reading threads here since I found the forum last summer. I was in a bad place and shortly after I finally got a PTSD-diagnose. Seems like a good forum with a very friendly and respectful atmosphere. I´m hopefully about to begin to do some real healing for my complex trauma with the help of a new therapist who uses EMDR and some other treatment tools.. Some of the threads I´ve read here gives me hope that I might be able to live a "normal" (whatever that is) life in the future.

Oh, and excuse my spelling/grammar, I´m from Sweden and haven´t been writing in English for years in case your eyes might hurt. ;) Anyway, glad to be here.

Welcome Satuma. I am glad you finally signed up.. It is very helpful, and the members are great.. They try and make everyone feel welcomed! I am also glad you are starting on this road of healing. Wish you best of luck and success!

Welcome @Satuma, happy you have signed up. And you are right. The people here make me feel so safe, and are always supportive. So much collective experience here, and am leaning more and more everyday. Hope the forum helps you in all the ways you need.'s if you accept them.

I started emdr in April. It's exhausting and I'm usually pretty zombified for a few days but my flashbacks have gone from running two weeks to three days. Once processing them through emdr if I am triggered the flashback doesn't stay long and doesn't completely derail me for days. It's not a cure for me but it's taught my brain how to process it more efficiently. Granted, I have a very trusting relationship with my therapist and she's very in tune with my cues. Knows when to push and when to back off.
I hope you're having success. I've had to take small breaks once in a while from it.

Sounds like you've improved a lot then.

May I ask, are your flashbacks visual? I don't get visual flashbacks, it's more like going in to emotional states with "beliefes".. don't even know if they are called flashbacks or if they are more like dissociated states.. :O_o:

Mine are visual. I describe them as walking onto a movie set and seeing it in third person. I also have visual and auditory hallucinations. The most severe flashbacks also bring physical pain and I've been known to completely shut down. Freeze. Like temporary catatonia.

Welcome to the forums!

I hope the theraphy helps you and I'm glad you found this place comfortable

Good luck in recovery
