The emergency exits are slightly recessed from the flow of foot traffic at Costco, so there's a semi-corner to get into at least for the closest approximation to a breather you can get there.
The checkout queues are the worst for me as there's no way to avoid having my back to someone unless there's absolutely nobody behind me. Absolute worst moment is being pinned to the cashier (whether by quick interaction or payment) while there's someone moving through the checkout behind me...
If you're paying for all the childraising out of your own pocket currently then you're effectively paying ex back his share of raising the kids since his share is coming out of your pocket rather than his. Doesn't sound like he needs you to actively subsidize his lifestyle, and his share should...
I disenjoy going into shops but rather because of hypervigilance turning me into a borderline panicky person who has to watch and simulate the future possible movements of the other people instead of payinh proper attention to the list and shelves.
Unfortunately the missus and I live outside of...
The first time I ever had a glasses prescription (the tiniest bit of astigmatism in one eye) I specifically asked about monocles. But apparently they didn't do them, or maybe one needed to find a more specialty optician.
Very cognisant of my short window here to do direct before vs after...
Had the lens of my right eye replaced with an acrylic one today (aka "cataract surgery"). Totally wasn't expecting blues to be quite so vividly blue with the new one - they really need to work on that aspect of the sales job - so that's quite jarring when opening one of them then the other...
Others finding out that I have PTSD? Shit, they're going to start guessing, aren't they? Shit, this is going to be unpleasant and you're going to be wrong in any case I absolutely guarantee it and it's not going to be fun listening to you vainly exhausting your imagination of horrific things...
I had a chat with a random stranger on the street once upon a time (about 30 years ago) and within 5 minutes of random conversation he was able to tell within 3 miles where I grew up. Each market town in England having its own accent peculiarities, you see.
Also odd because my parents were...
I got this worksheet from my therapist recently, so folks can get a quick overview of these things: Cognitive Distortions | Worksheet | Therapist Aid
I find myself particularly adept at catastrophising.
I keep mine in a part that does some intruding every so often. Then my avoidance amnesias it in short order. So I know what the details are, I just can't remember them.
Is that denial or avoidance?
... would have shown me that it's ok to be vulnerable. Never really learned that one properly and I'm sure it's too late now. Though they are both still alive and in their mid-80s.
I have tried from scratch (i.e. in a relatively low-stress environment i.e. home) and get kicked out of dissociation before I get there. It's only if I'm stressed that the metaphorical pressable button starts actually working.
Greetings, PerfectlyUnknown!
I had a slice of lemon loaf cake earlier today. Played havoc with my blood sugar but sometimes it's just worth it in order to have some lemon cake in your life.
Happens too fast for me to make notes really. In my experience dissociation is inconsistent with...
I think the key thing is whether it makes any difference to the treatment you get, regardless of the diagnosis attached to it: if you get CPTSD-appropriate treatment for your CPTSD then it doesn't make a practical difference that the US insurance claim says PTSD rather than CPTSD.
If your psych...
The gist I get is that a key component of paranoia is that it's irrational and that it involves a current threat; whereas hypervigilance is based in some way upon prior experience and is about future (even next-few-seconds future) threats.
Personally, I can't abide people being physically...
