Had the lens of my right eye replaced with an acrylic one today (aka "cataract surgery"). Totally wasn't expecting blues to be quite so vividly blue with the new one - they really need to work on that aspect of the sales job - so that's quite jarring when opening one of them then the other.

Also for the next two weeks my left eye needs glasses to see at Infinity and my right eye now doesn't. I'll have to let them fight it out and tell the driver licensing people the result.
My mum has claimed a moratorium on all “color debates” (we argue in my family about totally serious things; is that green, turquoise, or blue? Is TURQUOISE a blue green, or greenish blue)? Snort. Once she got new lenses… as everything she’d been swearing up and down -at volume!- for 20 years was green or turquoise? Blue. Beige or Sand or Camel? Snow White, Eggshell White, Cream. Burnt Orange? Ruby Red.

All of a sudden she’s seeing things the same colours as her kids & grandkids… but is outright refusing to concede the sienna tinge the world had in ANY WAY influenced her position in colour-debates.

She cracks me up.

One word: Monocle.

We’re bringing ‘em back! 🎩🧐💃

The first time I ever had a glasses prescription (the tiniest bit of astigmatism in one eye) I specifically asked about monocles. But apparently they didn't do them, or maybe one needed to find a more specialty optician.

Very cognisant of my short window here to do direct before vs after comparisons. Only takes a few winks to do! (Thanks, I'm here all week).

My son would totally wear a monocle.
It's a shame both his eyes are a bit rubbish; he'd need to wear two.

One of our guys got RTU'd back to the recruitment centre last night. There were issues with his performance on the last mission- which was a surprise, given his supposed level of experience- which led to another guy accusing him of being incompetent or a coward or both.

The first chap elected to clear the matter up by shooting the one who had called him out. He promptly announced this intention on the group chat. Not our private team one, oh no; the battalion one.

So we get a phone call saying to keep him in the sitting-room of the flat and make sure all the weapons are elsewhere, then a bunch of lads with sidearms rock up and take him and his kit away.

All just as Drone Girl arrived for dinner. Honestly, apart from the actual combat, real war is a dark sitcom, not a war movie. Hell, sometimes even the combat is funny, if your sense of humour runs that way.

Anyway, back on topic: my ex wife always swore that my last car was green, even after I showed her the registration documents that said 'blue'. It wasn't even a particularly greeny blue.

Okay, I'm hogging this thread a bit, but today is kind of eventful. After all last night's excitement Drone Girl stayed the night and I got the best night's sleep I've had in a while. Don't get me wrong, I like her and we are kind of getting into flirty territory, but we were in separate beds and I doubt that will change any time soon.
Maybe just having a woman's vibe in the room helped? I have no idea. She's here again tonight and it's weirdly comforting.
I'm also a lot happier because if she's here, I know she's not dead.
We're on downtime just now. Most of the rest of the team are on training for a while, so it's just me, her and the world's largest gooseberry in the other bed. He's been very morose all day.
The city was getting hammered by drones and a few more buildings were hit, mostly residential.
I don't even know why I'm typing this. I just need to.

It’s one of the …many… things ‘The Walking Dead’ got RIGHT.

“If they’re a family, why don’t they sleep together?”

((Kid who grew up in a clusterf*ck asks all confused by “bedrooms” somewhere “safe”.))

Even when I AM somewhere “safe”? If I love you, care about you, am responsible for you, or need you? I’m not going to sleep well unless I can hear you breathing, and make sure you’re still alive when I half crack open an eye, still mostly asleep. And if I want reeeeeeally good sleep? Someone needs to be awake, if not on watch. If not? I will be.

My dog was responsible for most of my best sleep, as a civilian. As he’d lay opposite to me (back to back, my fangs one way, his the other) and any little noise that woke him up? He’d assess, and dismiss, and let me know by thumping his tail in my face. Or assess and act, jumping up all growls & barks, and me along with him. I miss the hell out of that dog. My cat takes his duties just as seriously, but no one is afraid of the cat.

There is a study that says women get better sleep with a dog than with a man. 😹

My dog always goes under the covers and sleeps
with his back touching my leg; just like you say Friday, facing the opposite way. And he has to be touching me, even if lightly. Pack dynamics are helpful and calming and nice.

It might be as simple as that. I care about her and I can keep an eye on her here.
She reminds me of my partner in the police, on the specialist firearms unit we belonged to, in her literal 'ride or die' attitude.

I honestly thought she and I would be as close as we were then for life, but life never works out the way I want it to. It wasn't her fault.

I'm coming a bit unglued, I think. My thoughts and feelings are not consistent. I'm enjoying the war, but I desperately want to go home...but I doubt I'll be able to stay there, for the same reasons I came here. I'm terrified, yet I enjoy the fear. I like that if I sit down on a park bench in town, light a cigarette and start weeping inconsolably, nobody even looks twice, because who doesn't feel like that sometimes around here?

I think I've finally gone off the deep end.
