This has been an issue since my landlords bought a brand new furnace for my apartment 4 years ago. The minute it gets cold out, and the wind blows, my furnace SHUTS OFF!!!!!

The service guys have been out here at least 20 times in 4 years and can NOT fix the frigging thing. I can eventually get it going, if I shut off the circuit breaker....Did that today 2 times and it will NOT stay running. So, here I sit with no frigging heat, wait, yet AGAIN for the service guy to get her, get it running, and tell me that they have NO IDEA HOW to fix it permanently....

Oh, how I love winter....Let me count the ways.......Sorry, there are no ways........It's cold in here, and already I am praying for spring......

It's too cold to be there without heat!!!! Do you have any backup heat at all? You need to ask the landlord for an electric heater or something since this happens so often. Please don't stay home tonight - if your heat still isn't fixed.

I'm so sorry - this certainly won't help the dreaded winter blahs at all.

Oh NO! And I thought MY place was cold last night. That's awful...why don't they replace the furnace??! It's obviously not working properly.

Wow...I hope you have heat again soon. That must be awful for you. Bundle up!

Sending warm thoughts - Grainne

Well, I finally have heat........Hopefully it will stay on. The tech was here for 2 hours, and the problem is EXACTLY what I have been saying it was for 4 years. Every time the wind blows, my heat goes out.

Apparently they put the wrong type of cap on the chimney when they installed my furnace. It needs a high wind cap, and the one on there is just a regular one.......So when the wind blows, it causes a down draft and the furnace shuts off.....

ONLY TOOK 4 YEARS to solve this..........

On the bright side of things....I was supposed to be admitted into the hospital today, @ 3pm, for 3 days worth of testing. I am having health issues AGAIN, and my Endo wanted me admitted. I called and canceled the other day.... I am so glad that I did...Had I not canceled, the heat was off, the pipes would have froze, and there would have been one hell of a mess, and I would have no place to go... Not only in my apartment, but my landlord has his dentist business downstairs......

Hopefully it won't take too long to get the right cap on the chimney, so I won't have these issues anymore........

I am so happy they know what the problem is and that your heat is working now. It truly shouldn't take long to get the right cap for the chimney - just make a bunch of "noise" if it doesn't happen soon.

Have a good (warm) weekend.

Glad you have heat again and you didn't get burst pipes. That would have been the icing on the cake!

Hope they get the cap for the chimney soon

Not so much about getting the right cap...It's HOW in the hell are they going to get onto the roof, with the snow and ice. The roof is super pitched too..... Then, they have to get the old cap off, and the new one on.....The chimney is like a metal stove pipe, that is about 8 feet tall. They certainly can't put a ladder up against it....This will be interesting....

I don't care if they have to hire a Cherry Picker to hoist one of them up there to do the swap, as long as it gets done. 4 years of this crap is enough for me.....

I live in New England....The wind BLOWS here.......

Glad to hear you have heat again. This was also my second day without and but it's just repaired now so I'm loving this warmth now too!

I'm in Canada..........brrrrrrrrr!!!

C.

I hear you.....I hate being cold....Glad that you are finally warm too.....

I recommend a kerosene heater if you can afford one (I'm not sure how much they cost).
They heat up a room better then space heaters
in my expedience at least...

we have a working heat system but our house is NEVER warm in the winter because it is old and drafty
