News About 6 Weeks Ago.......

I am a delivery driver for a seafood company. About 6 weeks ago, a gunman shot and killed 3 people at 2 different locations. I went into one of the restaurants that I serve and one of the owners was touting......"Guns save lives huh.....guns really save lives." And I responded in kind, "Yes, they absolutely do." I stated, "If you and I were at a concert and a gunman came in threatening everyone's life, you would be the first person looking for someone in the crowd who had a gun." I don't know why, but he got really quiet really quick.

So when the hideous events took place in France, I got to thinking wouldn't it be neat if I could walk into this establishment and say, "Today will be your last delivery. It has been a pleasure to serve you. Starting tomorrow, they have banned all trucks due to the tragedy in France. " It would Suck because I would not have a job, but I would find another one. I could tell the gentleman, "You can put an aquarium up here and aquaculture your own fish. You can set up a pen out in the parking lot for your cow and your goats. You can grow your own herbs in pots here in the parking lot. As for toilet paper and paper towels, I guess leaves and corn cobs will have to suffice.

It is an amazing thing when you go into Walmart or your neighborhood gun shop and see all of the guns with heads, eyes, ears, noses, arms, legs, and most importantly, their own free thinking brains. Everyone has seen all of the trucks with the same......heads, eyes, ears, noses, arms, legs, and yes, the all important operable brain. Let's not forget knives because some knives cut off heads of their own free will without the help of a human being. Cages are now banned because they, of their own free will drown people without the aid of human beings. And if you like your chicken cooked in a pressure cooker, you are S.O.L. Pressure cookers filled themselves with nails, ball bearings, etc....in the Boston Marathon Bombings and killed and maimed innocent human beings completely devoid of any human interaction.

Thank goodness.........the world is finally a safer place. I praise all of the wonderful legislators and citizens who pushed for the banning of these items. Bless You All!!!!

It's amazing the arguments that pro-gun people come up with. Simply amazing.

Any object is a weapon if you hold/use it right.

Since all objects can be used to harm (if you know what you're doing), then I think ALL objects should be banned. We could go back to caveman days but hey, those objects are deadly, too. Maybe we'd all be better off dead.

There is a big difference between an argument and logic in the eye of the beholder. It is a beautiful thing when you live in a country where people who are on the opposite ends of the spectrum on an issue can converse and still be respectful to one another isn't it?

First of all, there is no way that a gun ban will happen. Its not possible and even if attempted it would not result in no guns, probably not even fewer guns. I'm never sure why people bother debating a mute point. I see the need for better gun control but that also is questionable as far as it actually doing much good. As a nation we have made our firearm bed and we have to lay in it. To make a point there, my family members, including myself have a variety of guns that we have picked up and passed along to each other and none of them are registered. That is common everywhere, cant restrict it if I got it from Uncle Joe who never registered it either.

The reason it irritates people to compare guns to cars or knives is because of the volume of damage you can do in seconds. I also dont believe hunting is a skill with semi autos, motion sensors and night vision googles. Wrestle the deer to the ground and strangle it if you want to brag about something.

A woman killed her teenage daughters recently, she stabbed them first then chased them down and shot them several times. They could have survived the stab wounds and had a chance at fighting her off. Her intent was murder, mission accomplished with gun, not knife. The dad was blamed for not shooting the mom first to stop it. Where was his gun as this unfolded? In the seconds this unfolded he may have not had time to get across the house and into his gun cabinet.

I would want you to have a gun if someone was shooting in a seafood place where I was, is it going to be in your waistband? will I die before you get out to your truck and back in? Does this mean we all have to be packing heat at all times to be safe?....... I dont believe anyone knows the answer to that. I see why you have the opinion you do and I respect it, but I'm a little less hopeful that we can change anything until we just get people to stop wanting to shoot each other.

Coco9, I respect your viewpoint too. At the end of your thread, you stated nothing will change until we stop shooting each other. What you are really saying is nothing will change until evil ceases to exist. And we both know that will not happen until the end of times. For me, it is very simple. If I am in a crowd of people, do I want to be there knowing that law abiding citizens are armed, or do I want to be in am environment where nobody is armed with the exception of the evil perpetrator. Many of the people who are for the strictest gun control laws possible are the very people who live in their gated communities and have armed body guards, etc. Many of the politicians who are for strict gun control laws would be a good example. And I say this as one who does not own a firearm, but respects American Citizens right to their 2nd amendment rights.

I think its interesting that I have guns and you dont. Basically, what I see is a lot of fatal injuries that may not have been if a different weapon was used. When I was a kid the police aimed at shoulders or legs when someone wouldnt drop a gun. Now you've got kids shot several times that werent even armed or had a knife. I dont know how guns make people safer, with cops shooting to kill without giving you a chance to put your gun down. And seriously, if I had a concealed loaded gun on me at all times then I would be safer until I got pulled over for a traffic violation, then Id be in danger all over again. I dont think the answer is gun law changes. We have a massive and disastrous cultural problem, which is slightly different from state to state. I'm more afraid of the police than I am of crime in my town, and Im a cute white blonde female. There is a real problem with law enforcement training.

Well Coco, I am sure you are not the only cute white blond female that lives in your neighborhood. I am sorry you have such horrible law enforcement in your Jurisdiction. A possible solution to this problem for you and all of the cute white females in your jurisdiction may be to lobby your city council to have the police removed from your Jurisdiction. The City Council would love this. Think of all of the money they could free up to do other more worthwhile projects. And then, and most importantly, you and all of the other cute white females could finally feel safe in your jurisdiction. I think it will work.

Yikes! you are merciless crc53 !! What I meant was, typically, those fitting that description are assumed to exempt from police using unwarranted force and that is not the case here. It is not a profiling issue, its a police mentality problem. Next time I'll make an effort to make the point another way! :banghead:

You are more than fine Coco9. I am just a Fugly white male with chicken legs. I am sorry the Police do not have the correct mentality in your area. I get along just fine with the Law Enforcement in my area. They don't know me and I don't know them. It's a mutually beneficial relationship. I hope to keep it that way, but you never know. Working 6 days a week, I don't have time to get into trouble. But it does sound like fun though, doesn't it.

Because of the US constitution 'the right to bare arms', this seems to be an issue. I do realise that this will likely never be changed, but it makes killing and maiming by bullet makes so 'acceptable', and 'normal'.

This is just my opinion, but doesn't allowing guns, make killing someone (whether lawful of not) a whole lot easier? And in some ways more acceptable?

If you wanted to kill someone where guns aren't accepted, you kind of have to get up close and personal (apart from a bomb - would you condone bombs if that was written into the constitution?), and I would imagine that sticking a knife in someone is lot harder (both mentally and physically) than firing a gun from a distance.

Plus gun violence in the USA causes thousands of deaths and injuries annually, which can hardly be compared to one incidence in France by a truck, or one bomb in Boston (both of which are horrendous atrocities). But American culture see's guns as okay. For as long as guns are seen as okay, the USA will continue to have tens of thousands of lives lost annually to gun crime, not to mention all the families affected by that death, and the thousands of people affected by injuries from firearms.

Hundreds of deaths at the hand of one person, it truly atrocious, but tens of thousands of deaths and injuries annually, caused by firearms, is not good either, all due to the 'acceptance' of guns, it certainly isn't anything to proud of, or a reason to suggest banning trucks but not guns is a positive way forwards.

Evil is evil......it will always find a way. Let's just ban trucks....they have a mind if their own and kill. Let's ban pressure cookers, nails, and ball bearings for they kill like they did at the Boston Marathon. Let's ban knives, for those inclines to be evil will and have used them to behead people. Cages need to be banned for those inclined to evil use them to drown people. And on and on and on and on it goes. There is not one single gun ever made that is capable of shooting itself without human involvement. And I will say again, those who want to ban guns many times are the ones that live in the gated communities and have their fancy alarm systems.......etc....etc. And I guarantee you one thing, they are the first ones who want a police officer or a law abiding citizen who is packing heat to be by their side to protect them
