Various things that have helped me come off of shift working or in general:
- the across the room alarm clock idea you're trying now
- force yourself to stay up during normal hours
- establish a routine and stick with it for a week or longer
- establish a calming before bed routine as well
- no blue light electronics (if you have an Apple device, you can change the settings to turn off the blue light during certain hours)
- eat healthy and at certain hours (I also have a superhero metabolism so I have to regulate the frequency and amount of food I intake throughout the day or I will wake up hungry during the night etc)
- stay away from caffeine, sugar, and alcohol
- if you get desperate enough and do not have to go anywhere/function, try staying up for an entire day to reset and then start a routine
I hope something works for you soon! You could order and try one of those alarm clock mats online where it forces you to stand on it to turn it off :)
