Alternate ways to say you are seeing your therapist

I have said in the past that I am going to the Dr.'s, but then folks want to know what the Dr. said when they next see me. I like the meeting idea better. I shall use that next time and see what is asked of me then. However, for an excuse from work, I still need to say I'm going to the Dr. or I won't be able to get off from work.

It never occurred to me to use an alternate saying. I don't mind people knowing that I go to see a counselor or therapist. Though I have said that I have a meeting and stopped there.

I suppose when I think about it tho',...I don't always like everyone to know cause some people are shallow and they gossip. I think on occasion I will say, "There's something I need to do, or something I need to take care of." etc. I don't owe anyone an explanation, but generally, I just say that I gotta go see my therapist. Because for the most part, I am proud that I take care of my mental health.

I used to say “I’m going to see the man”, except this sentence was always in Scottish Gaelic. We still refer to my T as ‘the man’ - even when it’s a social call.

So what you going to see the man for? lol
Well, my husband sees ‘the man’ for a pint in the pub. Last week I saw ‘the man’ when he came to buy a jar of lemon curd. It is unusual in that my husband knew and worked with my T before he became my T. But my husband was a psychiatric nurse, so boundaries were already blurred. However it has worked really well. I am now discharged from therapy, but could always start up again if needed.

I find this interesting as a part of different journeys. Maybe someday mine will be different. I deflect with humor a lot and have come to realize when I do. I'd like to get past swearing and crying someday and have it be something reflecting that I've gotten somewhere.
