Ha ha ah. Alan TLA. Now I have a better one than COMNAVCIVLANT. Oh man. that kills me.

Its all my own material as well. I should be on stage or something. Hard to believe that people have tried to kill me eh? Not for my jokes mind. Not often.

OMG. WTF LOL. Wagon, the last one has 4.

We will start a 3 letter acronym in the Bar. And don't pretend you knew.

I am glad you revised teh revision as the first revision would have meant I would have been disqualified. At least you haven't started a "combat but not in sneakers/trainers" rule. I would be out on my arse then!
There was never an intention to exclude Navy or Airforce... combat is combat, which by definition, you put on a uniform, you deployed whether land, sea or air, into a foreign country / territory, wearing said uniform, and performed operational duties, whether infantry or support, the threat is then real, and you are in combat.

Even though civilians who live in hostile countries may try to claim combat, they are not wearing a uniform and weapon, which makes them a clear and constant target. If they have a weapon, then their not a civilian, being non-combatant, which they would qualify as being able to be here... even if an enemy, we are all soldiers and follow orders.

So what about the felow that was a merc. He followed orders in a combat zone. Just a clarification on the (If they have a weapon, then their not a civilian) statement. Just curious because there is a lot of talk about the civilian contractors paid by the US to carry a weapon and fight. Even Canadian police training people in Aphganastin Are in a combat zone. Or does it mean that you have to play the role as a combatent. I know there are lots of different kinds of people doing jobs in both theaters from a lot of different countries. Hell I think the truck drivers carry firearms in Iraq and the are a constant target. Just curious I'm game for what ever the plan.

I would not wish to get into broad applications. Military, not civilian contractors. Any mercenary would have previously been military and served on operations to have such experience in the first place, otherwise they are just a civilian security contractor IMO, which is far different to a mercenary, which is defined as special operations training now hiring themselves out as civilian militia / security. So their military background would entitle them to be here, regardless their current job.

That is the way I would see it... Input?

I don't have any input. That is why I was curious. There a lot of people here in the US that claim the were serving their country as a contractor they just got payed a lot more. I have friends and I dabled with the merc stuff years ago when it wasn't cool you could actually get banned from the US pre 9/11 but we were ex seals, scout snipers, force recon, rangers, delta, sappers and so on. Mine was short lived do to family and it would cancell my life ensurance if I was offed doing it. When I would even bring it up to my ex she would flip so I would go away for months and work industrial jobs and I will call it train. Some of the groups now have ex military training young men just like the military. So they never see active military duty but go to combat. I don't know any way you look at it if the perameters are here and I guess case by case look is the only way because there are to many veriables.

The variables are.... this forum supports veterans. The very definition is that the person served in Government military and deployed. You cannot be a veteran, or eligible for veteran entitlements, being anything other, combat or not.
