Anyone Else's Needle Got Stuck?

too much time on American websites?

Either that or you've hopped back to the 1960s.

I'm getting a bit lost with the motoring analogies because I don't drive - I'm another Londoner and a paid up Oyster card holder [public transport]. But I think having the needle stuck on high can sometimes mean coping better with stress than other people because we're used to it and have strategies. I'm known for being calm in a crisis, but that's because high stress is usual for me and I stay the same while others start jumping around.

Bring on the low numbers, though.

Hmmm... I do use some very old fashioned phrases sometimes. Shall have to think why. I have lived abroad although not the States.

I too am an Oyster user.

I agree that being used to having high stress can mean we cope better with it. I too am very good in a crisis and have always been.

I have recently wondered if some of it can relate to what I believe was considered evolutionary dissociation on this site: [DLMURL]http://understandingdissociation.com/page/2/[/DLMURL] Not sure where on it unfortunately.

The type where you become super aware and calm and functional. He differentiates between that and the type where all the senses or parts of us are not engaged. I think I am good regardless but it might be a factor.

Another Oyster User here, although I don't live in London. I was bought up there though. Interesting article about clinical dissociation. I can link it to the Tube. Dissociation is tough. My interpretaion of it is when I'm walking around town and the people I look at seem on a different planet. Its not them who are on a different planet, but me, as I have PTSD. Its particulary acute when I'm on the Tube in London. Say at rush hour. I'm an old Doors fan and I can't help but feel Jim Morrison may have suffered from some form of dissociation, it's in the song: ' People are Strange.' Its in the lyrics:

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

Oh my goodness. I have never looked at the words that way before. You are so right. It would be surprising if he was not a bit dissociative.

Could be drugs I suppose...

I don't think it was the drugs, but who knows. Its strikes me as classic dissociative disorder. I have taken drugs in the past, including LSD, but not for over 15 years and when my PTSD is running rampant its not dissimilar to a drugs ' comedown,' when you think the whole world hates you. I feel so sorry for those who combat their PTSD with illegal drugs. They just make things so much worse.

That's interesting to know as I am not a drug user and have never been other than a little try of marijuana. I have seen the paranoia involved and am very grateful I never went there. I have had other types of unhealthy coping and it is very true that that they make everything immeasurably worse even when we feel we need them. I no longer get fooled into believing that lie. In many ways I manage my symptoms well and that makes all the difference.

Nice analogy. I visualize a needle stuck in a groove on an LP, because you hear the same thing over and over again.
