Anyone Have Fibromyalga Too?

I would like to change my diet; 2 of my fav food groups are caffeine and refined sugar. I know I should eat better, but it's so easy to open up the chocolate or the ice cream bucket. Making a salad is too time-consuming.

I am just not motivated. I make excuses.

My sister had it, she improved with time, I had symptoms as well but after further investigation it was found I had coeliac disease (it's a genetic condition and it appears the PTSD stressor triggered it so reviewing family medical history and any health problem you've had prior might be an idea) I had to completely change my diet which made a big difference. Have they checked for vitamin deficiancies? With the skin cancer scare less people are getting enough sun so vit D deficiencies in particular and by extension osetoperosis is rising.

Melatonin helps some people (works on me) some other natural type therapies migh be worth looking into. Some perscription meds have a sedating side effect so if you take something on a regular basis maybe look at getting a brand that does this instead of taking something on top of it. Some SSRI's do it as well.

Also talk to your doc/T about something called "allostatic load" the goal is to reduce it, they will probably address stressors in your diet, excercise and sleep hygiene (some may also mention things such as meditation/yoga) to take some of the load off your body.

I also have fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with it 14 years ago, but probably had it for most of my adult life. Like everyone else, I've been trying various drugs, for years, for that and the depression/anxiety. and other conditions I have.

But, my P-doc did decide to try me on Lyrica, which does help my energy level; or DID, at first. But then I quit smoking, and had to drastically increase my anxiety meds. Then he recently decided to tell me that he's always suspected that I have ADD, so he had me start on Adderall. Now, I'm back to being exhausted, and in pain all over, once again. But, my mental state is better, ha ha ha!

Also, I do take Ambien for sleep, but since I have taken it every day since first prescribed (Nov 2006), I am probably hopelessly addicted, and don't dare to even try to go without it. I've seemed to be one of those who suffers the severe withdrawals from any drug. So I'm too chicken to try to come off any that I'm on.

2quilt, your comment about caffeine and sugar being your two favorite food groups made me grin. I am so much like that, too!

I have heard many times that aerobic exercise and a good diet keep the symptoms under control, plus are supposed to be good for depression and anxiety disorders.

But how am I supposed to feel motivated to exercise. plus give up my sugar and coffee, when I am so d--- tired, and hurt so much everywhere? Nope, not a fun place to be stuck, especially when it's been years that I have felt this way. Just tired of the same-old.

I am finding that I do have increased energy with this new back treatment and i actually have been sleeping not too bad but i sleep short periods only and i try to nap if I have the option. My cousin started on lyrica about 6 or 8 weeks ago for fibro...she said it made her feel a bit sedated at first but she was able to return to work last week!!!!
